(Twitter)   Sad that this counts as progress but, it IS. The new Defense funding bill passed by Congress includes a provision that requires federal law enforcement personnel to identify themselves and their agencies during any operation   (twitter.com) divider line

So no more secret police?

A lot of unhappy brown shirts.

They'll just lie and say they did off camera. Same as it ever was.

2020-12-05 6:09:24 AM
Good. Now why should I comply with an arrrest outside of their jurisdiction?

Defund the police.  We will never change this  until We do.  Seattle is leading the nation on building a new public safety model.  Caseworkers not violence

The JSDF were stationed around DC?

/this comment only makes sense if you watch anime

I had just assumed the no name psychopaths were Prince's proud boy patrol or something.

\i still might not be wrong

"John Brown. Ask me again and I'll knock you down."

Or what?  Sternly worded letter?

2020-12-05 6:43:29 AM
And what if they don't? What's the penalty for law enforcement agencies not obeying the law? Who gets in trouble? How do they get in trouble? Explain the mechanism for punishment, step by step, from initial accusation to prison sentence, while also ensuring that each step has not or will not be "regulatory captured" by the agency in question.

Okay, go.

I have two federal Gestapo in my family.   The butthurt is massive.

Meaningless unless it is actually enforced. We better start seeing these boots charged with a crime and given time for refusal to identify.

I feel so tired.

Give us a scrap from the dog's bowl.

2020-12-05 7:25:01 AM
As opposed to what?  An unmarked SUV rocking up beside a person, goons jumping out and shoving the person into the back seat, then holding them in an unacknowledged black site prison for 28 days, where they were tortured (well not quite tortured, just almost tortured) till they gave up the pass code for their facebook account, which was already public.

Is this also in that bill? Because, yay.

Legislature is set to tackle money laundering. Donald Trump has, of course, issued a veto threat

Yeah, this seems like the quiet part that needs to be said loud.

Hey, is this another thread where people shoot down the idea of defunding these goons, because while it's widely accepted that cops are a bunch of violent goons that are by and by bad at their jobs and have grossly overinflated budgets, defunding them is unpopular because people still like them for some reason and we don't feel like capitalizing on all the videos of police beating up pregnant women or shooting dogs?

MattytheMouse: it's widely accepted that cops are a bunch of violent goons that are by and by bad at their jobs and have grossly overinflated budgets

That view is not widely accepted which is why "defund the police" cratered down ballot Democrat support

This election showed that while a slim majority wanted Trump gone, they didn't become Democrats either

This.
From the other side: The Trump cultists are traumatized by the "split ballot" voters and are wailing that this is a sign of the End Times.  No, you MAGA hat wearing, inbred buffoon. It means there are conservatives who refuse to join your cult, and think a Republican congress will make up for a Democrat president.

Because it doesn't work like that.

No it's a thread about a small but necessary correction in the SOP of federal law enforcement.

Does this mean an end to no-knock warrants?

BunkyBrewman: Does this mean an end to no-knock warrants?

No. It just means that after they shoot you, they'll have to tell your corpse who they are.

Yeah! We get to fund our warriors. You know, the ones that stay on their bases, protected from the pandemic. It's a good thing they sent a hospital ship to NYC. Without the military, the 40 people treated there might have died.

My point is, we spent $750 billion a year on defense, and don't use it when facing a clear and present danger to the country. Where are the marines doing testing? Where is the army doing contract tracing? Where is the Air Force distributing vaccines? What does the military do besides blow shiat up? What good is the military doing for the American people? Where is my return on investment?

Just kidding, they're going to be do it anyway.

These are federal agents they are talking about. This just means they have to identify their agency in some way so people know who is responsible.

Some folk in DC finally figured out that seeing US citizens whisked off the streets into unmarked vehicles by unidentified LE is not a good look for a country that purports to be a "shining city on a hill" that is the poster child for democracies around the globe?

Um... good.

Democrats cratered their own support by running like cowards.  You don't get to pin this on activists, who are neither beholden to politicians nor work for them.  Step off.

Well you can't fake something if you don't know what it looks like. And that is probably the argument that law enforcement uses when they explain themselves.

Also, what does "disrupt society" mean?

Australia used our military to enforce Covid lock downs, because people were needed, and unless a big war is happening, the military has a lot of people on the public payroll available.
