(MSN)   Canada changes its vaccine plan based on ridiculous conspiracies and...what's that? Oh. Based on Dr. Tam redoing the math and consulting scientists. Ok. But now what are we going to be enraged by?   (msn.com) divider line

Don't worry, the Conservatives will come up with something to complain about. Loudly.

I don't think that the increased order is from "redoing the math", rather from seeing how well the Moderna vaccine did in its phase 3 trial. The government didn't know which vaccine candidates (if any) were going to be successful so they hedged their bets by agreeing to purchase a minimum quantity from several manufacturers with an option to buy more of the eventual winners.

I am legit blown away by how fast of a roll out these vaccines are getting.  Its a nice reminder of what can be accomplished with common purpose and gobs of money, and as a taxpayer it doesnt bother me at all.  I mean, they were probably just going to blow it all on floor wax and furniture polish for parliament anyways.

Think of how many more projects NIH could fund if they just need to pay depreciation on the office shiatter rather than so many chemicals and machines that go *ping*.

I get that the virus needs to be obliterated, and that Trudeau is being very nice about things.

but fark me! Alberta needs a farking come-to-Jeebus moment about why they have the highest rates of transmission and infection.  It's not like the virus is more lethal to them vs the rest of Canada.

They must be so jealous of the US that they want to match infection rates.

Don't worry, Canada still has a ton of these douches who'll go full on tongue chomping (can't use that word on here) to make up reason as to why NO ONE should get the vaccine and that its only the sheep being led to the "Great Reset" and how we're now a Communist Country.

The change subby referred to is around who is in the first batch to receive. That needed tightening up given the size of the initial deliveries. Long term care homes have a disproportionate impact on the healthcare system when infection spreads within which is why they remain so high on the list.

"Moderna said Friday it will have as many as 125 million doses available by the end of March, including 15 to 25 million doses available for non-U.S. countries"

Last week - Canada blocks exports of drugs.

This week - Hey, American buddies.  Remember your old friends Canada?  Think you could spare a few doses of your COVID vaccines?

As an average dude, I expect to get a dose by this time next year. Maybe a little earlier in the fall. The woods are thinning and I think I just found a trail.

I'm going to predict something. When the long-term patients start getting vaccinated, some will die. They'd have died anyway because they're a vulnerable population with many infirmities and a certain number can be expected to expire just from that alone. No matter, there will be deaths and those deaths will come after inoculation, so, post hoc ergo propter hoc, the vaccine will be blamed, and those with an agenda will have fresh new fuel for why not to get it.

If you actually look at per capita numbers, Canada is not doing so great.

Reality: Hey American buddies. Want us to give you a big pile of money for vaccines? Or maybe just steal your patents by not honouring them and make our own?

Yeah, thought so.

One of my... uh... friends?... will still be enraged because Dr. Tam is Chinese and Chinese created Covid, and WHO is being lead by the guy who is a terrorist, and also the Gates and the Soros.

Yep, that's how the discussion used to go. Otherwise seems to be a sane and well educated person. I blame it for her buying condo in Florida and heavy doses of Fox "news". I can only have a conversation about the weather now.

please correct me if I'm wrong, but if you exclude Alberta and Manitoba, the per-capita rate drops significantly.

Ontario is still pretty high, but mych less than AB and MB.  If Doug Ford has only 1 thing going for him, at least he's not Jason Kenney

It must be because Trudeau hurt their feelings by not saying how great Manitoba is and how they deserve extra money and no taxes and can keep being subsidized to drill oil even if it's $1 a barrel to sell and $100 to drill.

I think it's more like:

"We're the West where men are 'free'*!  And no fancy-talkin govt man from the city can tell Me what to Do!"

*"freedom" is an overhyped term that means whatever the speaker thinks it means.

Can anyone explain why indigenous communities would be special?

Mostly they want the "freedom" to keep taxes low and then demand the other provinces spot them.

bsmz: The article says: Also on the list: ... adults in Indigenous communities where infection can have disproportionate consequences".

In a nutshell, from a friend who goes to them on a regular basis as a medical professional:

- Entire families with multiple generations often living in single-room houses making separation impossible
- Often poor health in general
- Critical care involves putting them on a small plane for a long flight to a hospital, endangering the pilot and medical staff on said plane and generally meaning people are going to die before they get to a hospital
- The unknown on how an already isolated community with a history of being vulnerable to novel diseases will be affected

These are communities where there's no way in but plane or maybe truck when the lakes freeze over for the winter. They've been under close watch because if Covid gets to some of these places it's going to be really really bad.

I lived in Southern Alberta for 15 years. Thankfully I had an urge to move east last year. I was initially shocked at the amount of people there who support Trump. Then I realized that most in the south are Mormon and are actually transplanted Americans.

That certainly explained the stupid to me.

It's bad enough that 75 million support Trump and his BS. Why in the world would anyone in another country be supporting this idiot and his bullshiat? The whole world has seen America's response or lack of it from Trump.

That's gotta be the dumbest thing I've ever heard, but I understand how ignorant these people truly are. These same people caused me to wish for stupid to be painful but upon further reflection, I would never be able to sleep for all the screaming.

The best example of how stupid these people truly are? A former mayor was commenting about my back yard ice rink to his son. He told his son that people use salt water to make the ice so flat and smooth.

His son mentioned this to me as we were looking at my rink. When I stopped laughing I asked him why we put salt on the roads? Since putting salt on the roads makes the roads impossible to freeze about say -15 c, how exactly would this help my rink?

"Masks don't work" "ma freedums" "Use salt water to make a rink"

15 years I lived with the American right wing stupidity in Southern Alberta. I should write a book about it.

This is my rink for credibility:
