Yeah, yeah, isolate and quarantine, go to the hospital if it gets bad. We know that!

Do you know what would be some useful information? What kind of remedies work. Doe robitussen work? What about tylenol? I heard tylenol is dangerous. Is aspirin dangerous? How about that umka stuff, does that work at all? Propolis? Antihistimines? Herb tea? Vitamins

There are lots of remedies for illness. Has anybody tried any of them? Do any of them help?

NSAIDS (Ibuprofen, Tylenol, Naproxen) do not appear to be a major problem with Covid, on the other hand them also don't appear to be a major help. And to the extent that they help you cope with early symptoms they might lead you to spread the disease more easily if you're not disciplined about staying home for the whole quarantine period.

Vit. D, zinc, copper, and manganese supplements. Get hold of an SpO2 monitor, if it drops to 95% you need to monitor it regularly, 92% or less and you need to go to a hospital immediately, if possible. Fevers should be monitored hourly. Light anaerobic exercise, you don't want to knock clots loose by raising your BP and pulse too much. Get out of bed if you can and walk or pace to maintain circulation.

Does anyone have the link to that video from months ago where the doctor described the breathing method to expel fluid from the lungs while proned? It was something like a slow, deep breath with a slightly more forceful but gentle exhale, and you do it four times with a sort of pushy cough on the fifth and final one?

We really need to get useful information compiled for public dissemination. We are likely going to have to be performing triage ourselves if [[[S]]]HTF hard enough.

For months now, I have been reading sad stories on Fark. I always feel the utmost sympathy for people having to endure so much. Often the stories are from individuals who are or were ill. And then of course family members and co workers.

Not to depress anyone, but to add some gravity, one branch of my family is filled with bridge players. In March or so, one group of players managed to pass around infections with a bowl of snacks or popcorn, sending my uncle to the hospital and killing one other player. Well, in an entirely unrelated group, my mother has had two of her group of four die from COVID complications, the second of whom died yesterday. A third woman has had increasing difficulty with Alzheimer's just in the last few months.

There are costs to health and life. There are financial costs which are ongoing. The social costs are leading to the destruction of groups of people who used to enjoy activities together, now gone forever. It is sad. My mom used to have three other people she liked to play with and spend time with. All gone. I am worried about her, of course. She has remained isolated and masked through the whole thing.

Anyway, it is just another aspect. Another cost... which I have not seen mentioned in all these threads.

As if anyone needed more reasons to stay home and use masks.

Extra vitamin C and D (up to the recommended daily limit) might help and shouldn't hurt. Zinc lozenges might help in the early phase of an infection. Energy bars, protein powder, etc. are probably a good idea since your metabolism will be increased while fighting an infection but you might not feel up to eating a full meal.

Tylenol seems to be acceptable as a fever reducer (although I personally avoid the stuff). Aspirin might help by reducing blood clotting, but ask a doctor because it can have side effects. The early concerns about NSAIDs making COVID worse were not supported by later studies.

It should be fine to try any of the usual "cold and flu" stuff for symptomatic relief. You can probably ignore anything with "homeopathic" on the label.

They are rare here on Fark. I think anti-vaxx and anti-mask people are being pushed WAAAY out to the fringe. We have all heard the justifications for Trump voting, and it winds up being opinion. It requires some warping of facts and acceptance of a lot of kooky ideas.

But the whole COVID-19 stopped being funny or opinion quite a while ago. And it has dropped off in stages. It was contained. Then it was just the flu. Then it was going to disappear by Easter. Then it was just killing old people. Then it was fake numbers. Then fake tests. I frankly don't know what people can possibly say now. The election is over. COVID19 is ravaging the heartland, flyover, rural places where people had been free to ignore it. More and more, the posses of deniers probably include people who have lost family members or friends. They won't be able to keep their nerve through Christmas. Coming up on two weeks after Thanksgiving. A lot of close-knit traditional families are going to get bad news.

You know what has probably shut people up more than anything? Nurses getting paid what they are worth. I am pretty sure that once the Bubbas start seeing that things are so bad that nurses are making 30k PER MONTH, they know that it can't be a hoax. The world really IS coming to an end.

The irony of the advice is that it's causing more cases.

The virus is disproportionately affecting POC and poorer neighborhoods. Those neighborhoods have more people per household are are often multigenerational. So when Manuel goes to work at Walmart and brings covid home, he spreads it to his wife, kids, parents, grandparents and anyone else living in the house.

We could plan for these things in the future. Free hotel rooms and health care for positive essential workers. In the mean time, a virus that only affects rich farks would be awesome.

If only there were a special hell for the people who go out with it. Actually encountered one of them (over the phone at work). Long story short, they were in contact with a symptomatic positive person, started having symptoms themselves, and said they weren't quarantining "unless they get a positive test". The pure gall of that.

But again, special hell for them, starting with an earthly gaol, and we can go from there.

It's ALWAYS a good time to start stockpiling supplies with a long shelf date if you haven't started already. If prices are bad and everyone can tell bad stuff is coming that means you should have done it already but better late than never. If most people think it's unnecessary then prices will be good so that's also a good time.

I have no problem w/staying the FARK home.....The only time I go out is for shopping & Dr's appointments!!!!!!

I also wear 2 masks as well, I again have no problem w/wearing a mask too.

When I have to take a friend shopping or go to the food bank I again wear those 2 masks. They my friend refuses to wear his mask I still wear mine.

I don't trust anyone who won't wear one around me either.

I also will not take the "Shots" either!!!!

Me I'm a germaphobe have been for over 35 years & I haven't been sick w/a cold or the flu either. I also haven't taken a flu shot in all of those year too.

I will continue to wear my masks in public places probably forever too!!!!

i don't know if it's mentioned in this, i do remember this exact clip, but don't want to re-watch it just now, but they also realized/remembered that human lungs expand more fully when we lie on our stomachs, not our backs.

so, if you do get it, don't sleep or rest watching TV flat on your back.

buy a pulse oximeter before you need one. if you do get it, monitor yourself. remember the early days hearing of COVID "happy hypoxia"? i see no reason that phenomenon would have ceased......

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7397783/

https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/06/health/happy-hypoxia-pulse-oximeter-trnd-wellness/index.html

also, it seems likely that being deficient in vitamin D -something most folk living away from the equator in the northern hemisphere this time of year (and religiously slathering themselves with SPF 50+ every single day to fight skin cancer/wrinkles) tend to be- can make the symptoms worse if you are infected:

https://www.endocrine.org/news-and-advocacy/news-room/2020/study-finds-over-80-percent-of-covid19-patients-have-vitamin-d-deficiency

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-020-77093-z

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7385774/

so take a vitamin D supplement now (within safely advised limits), it can't really hurt (if you don't clinically over-do it) and may help fight mild depression as well.
