That question also notably left out the English Bill of Rights, the Magna Carta, the Petition of Right, not to mention any of the works of enlightenment thinkers that inspired the sources of inspiration they do list. This test looks like horseshiat I would take a student-teacher intern to task over if they tried bringing it into a 9th grade government classroom, much less a farking actual citizenship test.

In losing he has made 20 million in donations.  20...farking...million.

The grift is not going to end any time soon.

Also fails to mention that the Constitution came to be because the Articles of Confederation created a clusterfark between states.

So it was really the failure of the Articles of Confederation that inspired the Constitution Constitution moreso than the document itself.

I think I would probably get deported if I answered the question like that though.

See how things are interpreted differently by different people?  The way I read that, the answer would be:

B-A-C-K-W-A-R-D-S

And I would have been wrong.

Not that that's unusual or anything.....

Because of the comma, i would have answered "sdrawfor".

It didn't matter what answer you gave, though. The person grading your test could claim that any of those were wrong or right, and you had no recourse.

Stupid uneducated white man writes "drowfor"? Close enough!

Intelligent self-educated black man writes "sdrawfor"? Sorry, you were supposed to write "backwards"!

FTA: 14. Many documents influenced the U.S. Constitution. Name one.
• Iroquois Great Law of Peace

:D for real? Nice. I wish that more lawyers would reply to Originalist arguments by citing the Iroquois Great Law of Peace. (I've read a translation of it, and a translation of core oral tradition stories, basicallty various major examples of the jurisprudence for interpreting parts of the Great Law). It is no more cringeworthy than all the other legal arguments from before 1750ish, but it is also siginificantly better at modern (after 1750ish) principles for pointing out the consequences of disagreeing to the point of obstruction. If the IGLP is considered in the same list as the Federalist Papers then obstructionism will be easy to sweep away because obstructionism causes plague, war, famine, migrants are lost and become homeless, etc etc etc. Those principles seem, you know, very relevant these days.

I mean, I've also read texts from the Ojibwe perspective that point out from their point of view, the Mohawk (1 of the 6 Irogquois nations), are refugees who ended up in Ojibwe territory when a white settler plague prevented them from returning home. But even that argument sounds really, really salient in Covid times. Legal pluralism and refugee status during a pandemic? Yes, please, we need that.

Like, if that's the list of contitutional texts, America, do it. Dooooo iiiittttt.

Not to mention, British common law.

And for people so obsessed with the 10th Amendment, the question on what rights Americans have is laughable in its brevity of specified answers. But that's probably a result of the states rights advocates caring less about individual rights than the powers of state and local governments to restrict rights. After all. They rarely talk about the importance of the 9th amendment. Certainly not with the same fervor.

Interesting. I know four Norwegians living in Virginia; one married my nephew. Nephew's MIL and SIL took the test and were this week sworn in as new citizens. I'm sure they took the old test.

Niece in law and and her daddy have yet to take the test and will likely get the harder one. She's an attorney and he's a senior executive in a company. They are all also serious Trumpers. Like many, they are very excited to be in this country and see a great future here.

I will be amused is if they don't pass the test.
