We have the worst Senate.
It is all I want fixed for Christmas.

I'm not a fan of decriminalization. It just means it's still illegal but we'll pretend we don't care.

Mcconnell needs to go

Well, if the GOP were smart, the senate would pass the bill, and then tale credit for the whole thing, under Trump's presidency.

Why not full legalization?

2020-12-04 1:26:12 PM
I injected 11 marijuanas last night then followed it up with a double cannabis shampoo. And I have short hair, so you know what that means.

I almost died but didn't. I saw myself on the shore of a glistening lake, with newspaper taxis and a hogshead of real fire.  I saw two ladies holding a zuccini, then the baby looked at me.

So as you can see, cannabis is , uh...

I forgot what I was going to say.

Too little too late but still better than a kick in the ass from a cold boot, I guess.

Baby steps.  If it's federally decriminalized, it is no longer a priority for the DEA and other enforcement agencies.  After a few years, it becomes easier to quietly remove it from CSA scheduling and treat it like alcohol.

Why do we need to do it quietly? The American public wants it legalized.

It's time Democrats take a page out of the Republican playbook.

So in GA, we get these ads associating Ossoff/Warnock with sinister black and white photos of liberal boogiemen such as AOC, Abrams, Pelosi, and Schumer (really?). Anyway, D's need to campaign on McConnell being the evil bad boogieman with the R candidate in a grainy black and white photo together.

As much as liberals rightly are angry about McConnell, Democrats in their ads rarely mention him whatsoever or put a negative spotlight on him - it's always Candidate X is so callous and cruel and evil, vote for me instead. I say as long as R's are running against AOC and the like, by proxy, then turnabout is fair play - run against McConnell and Graham be proxy as well.

Money. Pharmaceutical companies are strongly against it being legal, and they donate huge amounts of cash to keep it illegal. Baby steps allow for progress.

Yes, it should be legal, and every day it remains illegal is another life destroyed by people getting arrested/imprisoned over it, but at least we are trying to move in the right direction.

Thank God we have a right-minded senate to counter this horrible bill. Imagine if this deadly and addictive narcotic was actually legal. Are you suggesting Biden would veto a decrim bill if Congress passed one? Because I don't think he would.

That doesn't mean we need to do it quietly. Just legalize it. The American public - Democrats and Republicans - support it.

Money doesn't vote.

Cops still need the smell of pot as an excuse to kill - that is, I mean, shoot brown people in the leg, so I know why "Zero tolerance, my son excluded" Biden would veto it.

The bill uses the term "decriminalization" but it appears to be full legalization.  It completely removes cannabis from the CSA, imposes a 5% tax, and applies tobacco regulations to it.  Under what federal law would it still be illegal?

I'm not a fan either.. because companies will still test for it and you can't create needed jobs because it isn't legal.

Because politicians are afraid of Boomer voters whose heads are soaked in 1980's anti-drug propaganda and who will vote against them because they're "soft on crime" and "want kids to get hooked on drugs" or whatever they expect the attack ads to be.

Remember, the GOP (and some Blue Dog Democrats) looks at the world through a mindset that is from the 1950's, or earlier, with regards to just about every social issue. . .their mindset on marijuana is firmly out of "Reefer Madness".

But it's just as easy for Trump 2.0 to change it back just like Donald did with immigration. And suddenly all the marijuana growers, etc are federal felons again.

Which demos will this encourage to vote

1. under 35 yr olds
2. minorities who get targeted by police because they "could" be drug dealers
3. people that want to use pot as a pain reliever instead of opioids (another Trump war he failed).
4. Those rare Republicans who are pro pot use but hate democrats for everything else. This may bounce some of those white people over to voting for Ossoff & Warnock

If the Democrats don't put every dollar and resource they have into Georgia, they clearly don't want to win and are fine with their cushy jobs overseeing stagnation. They have a real shot to win too. Poll yesterday showed one D +2 and one +7. They're gonna have to grind hard to keep or expand those leads though.
