I had more fun at drive-ins with my dad's olds vista cruiser station wagon than I did with his VW KG

Fun family.

Csb...

My parents are convinced National Lampoon stole our family's stories, except we had a clunky van instead of a station wagon. We did haul a far-too-big Christmas tree on the roof (more than once), took long driving vacations out west (visiting an insane cousin and his family in Montana, no less), and shelled out to yocal mechanics when we broke down in the rural mountains of California.

Unfortunately, Christie Brinkley was unavailable for our "adventures."

So long as you don't go full Cousin Eddy, including in real life.

"I've got a 16-year-old son who's very interested in it. His buddies think it's the coolest thing in the world," said Turcotte. "So we may let him cruise around with it after Christmas."

You may be underestimating why said son thinks the wagon is cool. I drove a 71 Ford woody wagon in HS. It was decidedly uncool until I discovered girls, drive-ins, etc. Then it came into it's own, so to speak.

Also, I have to assume that the local nickname for their city is "Tittsville".

Headline had me worried they got stuck under a big rig. Actually nice and cheesy, but in the fun way.

"Sh-tsville" also works.  That's how I read the headline initially

Nice try. But not even close to full Griswold.

Unimpressed by the lack of one million lights on the house.

In my sister's neighborhood they are decorating it in phallics. Started with one guy pranking his neighbor and spread from there.

Original movie was 25,000 imported Italian twinkle lights, so yes, off by a factor of 10.  However, likely they didn't have a Hollywood budget, either.  They did put up real incandescent glass bulbs, and blew breakers, so I'll give them a "It was a good try, Dad."

/CSB  My nephew puts on a display at his house every year, decorating mostly the side and back yards (not much room in the front yard), using a combination of minature incandescent lights, LEDs, plus blowup displays, etc.  He pays the neighbor's electric bill to run extension cords from their house, and his power bill is well into 4 digits.

When you move there from a bigger city (Toronto in our case), friends and relatives refer to it as "Sticksville".

I agree, subby, that's a really gorgeous car.

That is not the car I ordered.  I distinctly ordered the antarctic blue Super Sportswagon with the CB and the optional rally fun pack.

We have cut our own forever.
We built our house with an 18' ceiling, wife wanted a big Christmas tree.
Biggest tree we brought home was about 26'. We didn't bring a tape measure that year.
Sadly, due to Covid, this year we purchased a 14' artificial tree. Wife is on O2, can't do the trek into the woods.
Always on top of a smaller car.

Why do you keep your wife on top of a small car?

She talks quite a bit. Often it is about things that make little sense.  She likes some of those reality shows and stuff like that.

"but after last year's display, daughter Kennedy, 13, challenged the family to up their game in 2020"

Kennedy literally means "misshapen head". Great choice there.

<CSB> There is a local street in Ottawa in the east end called Taffy Lane that does a big hullabaloo every Christmas where everyone decorated their house way more than the house in TFA. My brother and his ex-wife bought there.

That was a big mistake, It's a two lane road but because of the mount of traffic the unwritten rule is traffic goes west to east during the holidays after dark. My brother was working nights and always had problems leaving since  the people who show up to see the lights do not exactly have the xmas spirit when you try to get out of your own driveway.

"Sh-tsville" also works.  That's how I read the headline initially

In 1995, there was a diaper delivery service that "misspelled" Stittsville as "Sh*ttsville" in their Ottawa yellow pages ad.  I did not keep the book.
