Guessing something like this:
- Come quickly! There's been a car crash!!
- Sir, I'm going to need you to calm down
- Calm down?! Someone is hurt!
- SIR! I'm going to need you to CALM DOWN.

"SLANG," who allegedly in a "bad car crash" had the presence of mind to film the police engagement rather than attend to themselves and could not be reached for further comment or elaboration.

The tazing victim's relative comes out screaming "he's not in his right mind"

Seems like there may be more to the story.

I have never seen to where if someone is really upset, saying CALM DOWN in a really forcible manner helps them calm down.

Maybe the LAPD should try "duuuuude....chillax. It's alllllllll cool man."

From the way the women in the video are describing the dude it sounds like there was more to it than just 'trying to get help after a car crash'.

Take their guns. Give them only single use tasers and billy clubs and always on body cameras that can't be manipulated. They will farking learn to de escalate really quick or the ones that don't will be a self correcting problem.

Let them face a population they don't know is armed or not armed. Without weapons and I promise they will definitely develop some people skills real quick.

The other man, officials said, was released and cited for battery on a peace officer and obstruction.

"peace officer"
Not gonna lie. I laughed.

This sounds like something that happened near my son's place. The driver was in a church parking lot across the street from the complex that had a little bit of a hill on it. Somehow, the car started rolling at hit a telephone pole at the street which blew the transformer. He gets out and begins screaming at the top of his lungs about his car, loud enough to hear everywhere. Cops get there and spent the next 20 minutes trying to avoid using the taser on him. Finally, somebody he knew got him calmed down enough for the cops to take him safely into custody.

/ DUI
// Controlled substances
/// It could have ended much worse

Good news that they only tazed  him. When I read this story to my wife she said "you know that if (our autistic adult son) did the same thing they'd have at least tazed him" and I knew she was right.

So the one guy was already hospitalized, released, and charged with a crime. Meanwhile, the department has "launched an investigation" about the cop assaulting a bystander. Sounds about right. Gotta make sure those cops get their due process, even at the expense of everyone else.

The confirmation bias replies in this thread are TOO DAMN HIGH
I say LET 'EM BE TAZED

But defund the police, too. It's an exciting proposition: How to de-escalate behaviors without incentivizing abuses to exploit indulging behaviors. Cops are vulnerable to the onus of their last-defense roles that thrive on adrenaline. Cops aren't allowed to Homer Simpson the Bushes, and some cops relish that aspect a bit too much, but not most. Cops aren't allowed to hang back and await the tactical van of social workers to show up with bag bean chairs, all the time in the world, and negotiated food delivery. Cops are poorly evaluated. If they request collaboration, it can be interpreted as weakness. Or that's the anxiety. There's so much work to do, really, if Serve and Protect is to be realigned with science. Not cheap. Expect taxes on both ends of the relative wealth index.

Right, because YOUR knee jerk reaction that the person being tased somehow brought it upon themselves is TOTALLY unbiased. smh

Either care or don't, but your expectation of justification for violence to be thrust upon someone else is an example of why this is an ongoing issue that will never be resolved.

I can't believe you all, having the nerve to judge these cops. They only did what any sane, rational human being would do when encountering something somewhat vexing and confusing - pull out a weapon and shoot it. This is perfectly normal behaviour that you'd see in any modern 'free' country. Heck, these cops are even better than that! As Joshudan noted, they should be commended for their restraint in only using electroshock weaponry instead of ballistics!

/ If you need more than 45 seconds of video that shows some of the cops so very concerned for their safety that they have their hands hanging casually in their belt loops, to determine whether or not this was justified, you need your farkin' head examined

Lose all of the guns and stop shooting everyone... lay off of the drugs, too..  maybe the cops will back off a bit..

Typical SJW response. How dare someone want all of the facts.

You damn boot licking, fact wanting losers!!!

There are four cops, suffering no visible physical threat, involved in tazing an animated person showing no hint of violence until they assaulted him.

What possible extra facts about the events preceding the video do you think could possibly justify using that level of force?

Perhaps a level of sass inappropriate to the tazee's melanin or socioeconomic level?

That being said, I suppose this is an improvement. They didn't shoot him, or the bystanders.

buravirgil: . Cops aren't allowed to Homer Simpson the Bushes.

This is wrong. And it's a big problem with cops.

Unless you're going after a literal murder suspect, you technically have discretion (the Florida school shooter cop is about the only person I've heard of get shiat for it). Nobody is going to fire or reprimand you if you don't chase every person who acts funny.**

**rule MAAAAY not apply if suspect is black... but that's an unwritten rule

FWIW:

My white uncle, who can use a camera but is also mentally ill (f*ck's sake, must be magic?), had to do quite a bit more to a cop before he was beaten on and tazed by several of them.
