(SoraNews24)   Veggie dog specialty store opens in Shibuya, where you can try 10 different Veggie Dogs. I'm not sure this is a good idea for the customers, because some assembly is required and there is a danger of choking on that hex wrench   (soranews24.com) divider line

Frankly, Veggie dogs are pretty good. I remember buying them in the 90's and even then they pretty much tasted good. I mean throw enough mustard and bacon on them they're fine.

By that I take it to mean if you cover up the taste with other stuff they are edible.  I had one in the 1990s as well and found it to be something that has no business being in my mouth.  After taking one bite out of it I gave the rest of it to the dog who scoffed at the idea of eating it.  The modern ones may have improved and I am mildly curious what they taste like.

Veggie meatballs work pretty well; it's ok for them to taste like they're half breadcrumbs like traditional mystery-meat meatballs, and they got well with tomato sauce.

I never liked the "baloney in tubular form" hot dogs; the best ones were the Italian styles we got in NJ with lots of grilled peppers and onions and french fries on good bread so you didn't notice the actual hot dog.

I've tried some veggie dogs after I stopped eating meat, and most of them seem to be about as bad as the real thing except more rubbery.  I do occasionally get veggie sausages; the Tofurkey Italian style ones have been some of the better ones.   I bet the place in Shibuya does a far better job.

I have once been to a non-veggie-oriented restaurant that had veggie chili-burgers, in Indianapolis of all places. They had about four kinds of burgers on the menu (one veggie and probably a turkey-burger or something), and a few kinds of chili, one of which was veggie, and they had chili-burgers, so why not get a veggie one? It wasn't bad.

the "earth grown" branded from ALDI aren't too bad.

their eye-talian snausage ones are even better, but they haven't been stocking them lately :(

Funny, didn't know broccoli had an anus to make hotdogs out of.

A veggie dog with salmon isn't vegetarian.

my lazy-ass used to simply buy cases of this stuff, but hamazon doesn't carry it anymore :(
too bad, since it was relatively inexpensive, all the heavy-lifting was already done for you, and best of all (to my cheapskate tiny-mind) - you're not paying for water, lol.

or maybe before the year is out, I'll finally motivate myself to make this "bacon" - I've still got 4 packets of rice paper, that I bought in... oh, lawd... in 2018. well, *thank glob* the stuff never goes bad.
