(AP News)   Georgia's flip from red to blue was a triumph of democracy fueled by unprecedented levels of voter participation particularly by young and minority voters. So Ga's GOP-led legislature wants to make sure that shiat is never allowed to happen again   (apnews.com) divider line

Wow I for one am shocked by this. The funny thing is that every election from here on out GA will be even more blue. Atl is not gonna stop growing. They are doing the same shiat they did in VA and CO to cling to power and it isn't going to help.

So they want you to write your drivers license number on your mail-in ballot to prove you are you. Like anybody couldn't write that down. Alternatively: photocopy your ID and include it. Like someone else couldn't do that. Also if you don't work in an office building where the f*ck are you supposed to find a photocopy machine? You gonna make people pay Kinko's money to use theirs? Isn't that a poll tax? Stop trying to fix a non-existent problem.

Your not wrong but pretty much every printer made is a photocopier now. This is just more bullshiat to try to cling to power one or two more cycles before nature takes over. It's pathetic.

It's more that the poor and minorities are less likely to HAVE a driver's license (no car=No need for one) and , like NC they'll pass new budgets to underfund the DMV and force them to close offices in minority neighborhoods to make it MUCH harder to get one.

The evolution from the Jim Crow tactics used to deny the vote to minorities, i.e. some random KKK clerk that has sole authority in whether a person's registration is "accurate".

I haven't had a printer at home for years now.  Ink would always dry out when I had one.

If I need something printed, that's what Fedex Office is for.

But in Minnesota, we have to use driver's license numbers or social security numbers to vote by mail.  We just jot down the number, no photocopies.  Seems somewhat reasonable, although I doubt there's much fraud to prevent.

This is already the case in Wisconsin. I just had to upload an image of my license, a photo of my drivers license was sufficient.

it would, but it's not a photo ID, and the point of the exercise isn't actually verifying the person's identity but adding an extra procedural hurdle

Not if the rules say Drivers License Number.  Remember, the goal is not to identify people but to prevent brown people from voting.  Using a number that everyone has would be counterproductive.  Besides, my SS card says "Not To Be Used For Identification."

Unrelated topic:  I have seen articles about kids who flee their home-schooling parents and don't know their SSN's or have access to the documents needed to prove that they exist.  I was wondering if some of these youngsters might not even have SSNs.  I didn't have one until I was in my teens, and my grandmother never had one at all--when SSNs were invented she no longer had a "job" outside the home and figured she didn't need one.  I wonder if some women raised in sheltered environments, who went directly from living with daddy to living with hubby, might be in a similar predicament.

That said, the Secretary of State is investigating several groups accused of registering out of state residents to vote for the Senate runoff.  I'm not sure how you can vote in the runoff if you aren't eligible for the general election.

That said, radio and TV are currently unusable in Georgia. I've held my nose and voted (all 4 suck) just because it's public info and hopefully people will leave me alone.  Meanwhile I'm using paid streaming and podcasts to avoid being driven insane.

Well, you're sending in your vote for everyone to see. Trust has to start somewhere, right? Also, an automatic death penalty for misuse of SS# would encourage me.

If we're somehow able to get every citizen in America a SS#, then everyone should be able to have a voter ID #. But now it suddenly feels like I'm asking for too much.

2020-12-03 4:07:14 PM
They haven't really clued in that this was an exceptional circumstance and that cracking down on mail in votes after the fact is more likely to hurt GOP votes, have they?

2020-12-03 4:07:41 PM
And now you know why all of these cases are being filed in 'support' of trump. It's to ensure that SCOTUS is firmly on the side of states rights WRT to elections and to give cover for state legislatures to enact more draconian 'voting rights' laws.

Per usual, Dems will enjoy a very, very brief time in which to have any influence. There won't be any way to stop this and it'll affect most of your key swing states. The best remedy is to build on the success of getting out the vote this year and ramp up efforts to get people to the polls. That and a major focus on state level races.

I think we can all agree these people need to be dragged out of their homes Christmas Eve and have everyone in the state line up (6ft apart of course) and take turns just kicking the shiat out of every last one of them.

Umm Fark off with that. No one is trying to remove anyone outside of the metros right to vote. GA is changing because the majority of people live in Atlanta and are sick of having the rules set by people from outside Atl. 5 counties comprises 42 percent of GA.

You don't even need to ink your thumb. There are patches that can be attached to a piece of paper where you peel up the cover and press your finger on the resulting exposed surface. That records your fingerprint. The tech was developed back when writing checks was a thing and they wanted a way to record something conclusively identifying the individual presenting the check for payment so they could later be prosecuted if they were passing stolen or bad checks.

[thinking emoji] That seems to be a pattern in American politics. "Time to move on!" is always too soon for the segregationists, meanwhile the GOP still gets votes because Jimmy Carter was a little bit imperfect.
