In politics, money is critical.

I hereby declare that as of January 20, 2021, the entirety of Trump's Cabinet shall be re-named as the Marketing Department of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation.

How did the theme song to Trump's show go again?

I wonder if he'll invite Herman Cain?

That's not a very nice thing to say about bowel blockages.

Rules are for thee not for me.

File with Austin Mayor telling you to stay home while in Cabo San Lucas, Denver Mayor telling you to stay home while waiting for his flight at the airport, and so forth.

Think they'll add a 'Last Will and Testament" section to their waiver forms?

I thought about submitting  the WaPo's version of this story as legit news [like subby got greenlighted for].  Instead I gave it a headline something about like

"Mike Pompeo Begins Purge Of Deep State [Dept] by Inviting Them All To "Masque Of The Red Death" themed Superspreader Party".

Probably tried to cram too much snark  into one headline :-)
But WTF, is Pompeo trying to rebrand himself as "Covid Mikey"??  Trump already decimated the State Dept a couple of times metaphorically earlier in his term - was that not good enough?

[Technical Nitpick, the story doesn't say it's a "fundraising gala", it says it's a State Dept departmental holiday party, and this source sensibly mentions that it's taxpayer-funded.  Of course, Pompeo's a Trumper, so I'm sure he'll find a way to grossly violate the Hatch Act and turn it into a fundraiser for himself or for Trump, so subby's not wrong... he's just early.]

This is part of Mike's push to become trump's heir apparent. He believes he's next in line and is starting to crank up the machine.

Pompeo is up to something super fishy. Ever since he's become Secretary of State he's been doing all this jet setting, networking, secret meetings, throwing lavish parties. Basically using his branch as his personal fiefdom and doing things totally unrelated to his actual job. His actual accomplishments are few and highly contentious.  Some say he has ambitions for 2024 Kansas senate or president even and is laying the groundwork.  Good luck with that you corrupt sack of smegma

900 people in a room sounds like a bad idea, but whatabout the dimmycrats?! Two mayors told everyone to stay home, and then they took vacations with their families! These situations are obviously completely equal, so BSAB but you should ask me about what party to vote for.

Rex Tillerson got fired via Tweet while recovering from some bad food poisoning. Maybe don't put yourself in a situation where you'll be hamstrung by sickness if you're SoS and you risk upsetting someone who loves tweets.

COVID-19.

Seriously, nobody on the planet has done more to help accelerate the spread of this virus than the Trump administration.

It'll be in the fine print at the bottom: 'I hereby hold harmless everyone involved in this fiasco, and direct that my estate be divided equally between Mike Pompeo and Donald Trump.'

Yes, those mayors bad. We're supposed to be the better party.

More importantly, the damage is people stop thinking of these instructions as important, because clearly the guys ordering them don't think it's important.

But no you have to hide behind "Because Pompeo did it worse means Democrats never do any wrong"

Pompeo is a reliable shiatholer. He's probably the worst cabinet member. He's in no danger.

True, but there's a link in TFA about Pompeo hosting repeated taxpayer-funded fancy dinners and using them to amass a personal contact and potential donor list.

I am fully in favor of this. The worse it ends, the better it ends.

I'm not sure how throwing a gala for partisan donors using taxpayer resources is even legal, regardless of Pompeo's personal agenda.

From a junior source I have at the State Department, the remaining competent people at State think he's a bug-eyed lunatic who's replaced the upper layers of the department with brown-nosing lackeys.

/so, exactly what we suspected
