Lindsey Graham will work hard to keep Trump from being prosecuted for crimes even after he is no longer president.  It's as if the Senate Republican caucus is moonlighting as defense counsel for one client.

He no longer develops anything.  He just sells a bullshiat package of management services that include having his name plastered on a building, and doing the bare minimum after demanding a huge up front payment.

Once he's indicted on tax evasion, money laundering, and other charges, he'll be toxic.

He will be toxic anyway. He ran for president to boost his brand and instead he ran into the ground. Like everything else.

Why would anyone make deals with a detested departing president? Good way to get things reversed instantly and sow bad accords with Biden.

Well if any of the dumbasses in the before time had thought to put any of these traditions, common-sense ideas, or, fark forbid, norms into actual laws, maybe we'd have a saner situation on our hands. Instead it's either going to be "our national tragedy is over" and some guys in the background hoping they can keep Trump from doing a stupid with state secrets, or we'll find out that the things we actually do have written into law actually apply to Donald Trump.

/I think my keyboard needs a drink after that post.

If he yaps about state secrets after Jan 20, he gets to go to jail.

I would imagine the intelligence community is going to change the locks on the doors.

People like Trump have been around since forever and I imagine the founders met their fair share. The people were supposed to be the safeguard to keep openly corrupt assholes like him out of power.

If there is anything they couldn't imaging I think it would be how mass media managed to turn such a huge portion of the population into mindless partisan zombies.

John Adams knew about the media back then.  And look what he did.  ;)

Seriously though, even back in the nation's founding, there was terribly biased journalism.  But I agree, they probably didn't see the distribution of news leaflets which caused town square conversations to be too threatening for good leaders.  But like you said, the sheer reach of biased media today is something they probably didn't see.

hubiestubert: "Daily security briefs! Getcher US daily security briefs! Lemme sell you which Senators got dirty laundry!"

hence Biden will request an hourly security brief instead of the standard daily one.  The standard one can keep the coloring book format that Trump prefers.  The hourly one is completely different and doesn't have to be shared.

This isn't really compatible with his strategy to immediately announce his next candidacy in an attempt to shield himself from prosecution.

The Biden Administration may frown on his emolumental shenanigans.

I think there are equally few foreign lenders who will be willing to work with a known idiot who flunked out of the presidency. The Trump brand may as well be Turd at this point. Nobody wants that dipshiat's name stinking up their cities anymore. He has no influence, which is unlike every other president before him, and the rabid Trumper base is unique to Stupidville, USA so its not like foreign leaders will be looking to draw on that for an advantage in their own countries.

The crazies are all Trump has and they are not an international thing. January 21, every leader and lender in the world is going to forget all about anything named Trump.

That really will be the tell for Lindsey Graham, won't it? At that point, there really is no reason for any of them to defend him other than blackmail.

If we NEEDED another reason to cut this smirking fat slob off from continuing to receive the President's Daily Briefing, this is it. Unless we want to feed him bullsh*t and see where else in the world it turns up.

An indictment is not enough.  An indictment can be explained away as a "political hit job" or some other made-up shiat.  A conviction with an actual prison sentence is the only thing to ensure lasting damage to his brand.

grokca: Who is even going to consider talking with him?

Presumably he will still have access to secret intelligence briefings.  It turns out that the targets of those briefings might pay money for that info so they can counter our efforts to collect it in the future and even undermine democracy in the IS and harm our alliances.
It costs nothing for China to grant Trump more trademarks, or let Ivanka earn millions a year in her factories there.  Putin of course.  Trump is also now close to the Taliban, and could get a government building contract in Afghanistan after he withdraws the troops.
Don't expect the GOP to even blink an eye to his post presidency corruption.

Personally, I'm all for that.  You've got a interesting opportunity; a honeypot that has connections to some unsavory characters, a mountain of debt that needs to be serviced, and absolutely no ethical or moral qualms about selling everything that's in his head of "value" to preserve his lifestyle.  It's a perfect sting operation.

The difficulty for the GOP is that they won't have the opportunity to close ranks and keep him in a bubble as they did in the Senate.  The DOJ (well, a proper DOJ) gives no shiats.

Probably have for decades.

I wonder if he'll keep getting them. I could swear I saw that while ex-presidents keep their clearance status, actually sending them anything is more of a tradition and is at the current president's discretion (you generally want to keep the one other guy who's been in your shoes at least halfway up to speed in case you want to run something by them). I'm not finding a lot of information on if that's true though. Everything just says they "have access to" but doesn't clarify if that means that they get the info, or if they are just allowed to see it.

I can't wait for this. He thinks he's going to step out of Whitehouse and be able to walk into deals with all those amazing "deals" he built during his presidency and the same people he thought he had amazing rapport with send all his calls to VM because he no longer has the POTUS title and he realizes it was the office he held that people gave him deference for... not him.
