Nice that whoever cooperates will help make room in Hollywood for a whole new batch of celebrities.

So giving of them all.

Can you have an award show when only 8 movies were released all year?

Well, congrats Tenet and The Croods, I guess ?

Menk. Also, I got an email saying tickets for WW84 were on sale, so evidently WB has decided to take a chance in theaters.

Yeah, like the Me Too trend and the Black Lives Matter trend which clearly affected nobody in Hollywood personally. And that whole LGBT thing is just sooooo overdone my god, nobody in Hollywood is ever gay or trans either, it's all just so performative.

So trendy.

The promos I saw made it look like it'll be in theaters in IMax and on HBO MAX for free. I know which way I'll be watching it.

They changed the rules for this year. All the movies that were intended for theatrical release but were released on streaming are going to be eligible. The upside is that this might actually be the weird year where the nominated movies are movies people have actually been able to see.

I just want Glenn Close to win an Oscar. If this is what it takes, then so be it. She'd hardly be the first good actor to win for a dumb movie.

That would be fine.  The Oscars and the Grammys often do "Oops, we should have already given you one of these.  We cool?"

You can always tell who those people are because they get nominated every couple years for half the movies they're in, and then that stops immediately after they win. Al Pacino. Julia Roberts. Renee Zellweiger. Kate Winslet. Julianne Moore. Sure, they may pop back up in the noms now and then, but you can tell that the urge to award them has waned.

Well the thank you speeches always go over time so probably not.

...I think Joe Pesci just said "thanks" and walked off. That's a rarity.

Still can't believe this POS award still exists. Every few years someone compiles a list comparing the most successful movie vs the actual academy winner. Sometimes you can get thoughtful comparisons showing the winner vs which actor or movies should have actually won. There is one consistency with the Academy, the actual winner will be forgotten while the one ignored will go on to be remembered.

Of course it has to be in person. It's one of the biggest commercials of the year.

It would be physically impossible for me to care any less about self absorbed rich bastards metaphorically jerking each other off for 3+ hours.

I care about continuing my streak of not getting COVID even though I have had to work around the public every day since the pandemic began.

I care that we still have an orange man-baby and a wrinkled up turtle specimen ignoring the needs of the people and that we have 50 days until someone may actually start to lead the country again.

I care about those of my friends and family that have been killed, sickened and/or forced to become unemployed by the pandemic.

Damn, I'm tired.

Meh, it's 50/50.  We often see art very differently from when it debuted.  Sure, they get it really wrong occasionally - Shakespeare in Love comes to mind - but a lot of times it's just the inevitable aging of tastes.  Happens a lot in literature as well.

Given America's taste for crap, going by box office is not a good way to say what's the "best" movie of the year. Of course, neither is the current method.

At least she's not making out during Schindler's List...

Side note: the Seinfeld writers always had a great touch with coming up with fake movie titles. Prognosis Negative, Chunnel, Rochelle Rochelle, Sack Lunch, Ponce de Leon...

A self aggrandizing platform for the rich and famous to award each other for movies they believe promote the greater good.

Thor 3 should of won best picture!

I really wish celebrities would stop preaching at award shows. Be grateful you're there and given an award. Thank the people who helped you with the role or your family, etc. And move on. Don't use it as some platform. I really don't care. The Oscars usually gets it right with their awards but it's so dang full of itself.

At least Bugs Bunny is deserving of golden statues, although he won't be up for another one in 2021.

That's basically the McDonald's argument. Billions and billions means they make the best burgers?

The academy awards get it wrong from time to time, but equating box office to quality is stupid.

A friend is the director of "The Outpost."  Would love to see it get noms for cinematography (several incredible one-shots), sound (bullets and bombs whizzing by were unnerving), song (written by my buddy, sung by Rita Wilson), and even sleeper noms for director and picture.
