You say the 1% defense like this is debate class, and to me, that says it all about this virus.

We bicker back and forth about this thing on the internet as if it's a political issue.  But is it?   It shouldn't be.  We're talking about people's lives and livelihood.

If covid-19 was as apocalyptically bad as the left (and the media) is trying to pretend it is, we wouldn't be debating this stuff.  People would be altering their behavior out of sheer self preservation.

How did we reach a point, in the United States of America, that we think it's debatable whether or not a guy can open his business and make a living.  That isn't a debatable issue.  It's a fact of life.  He can, because he has to, to survive.

To your point, China committing some human rights violations just means it's a day ending in Y....it isn't exactly evidence of anything really. Except that the Chinese government is despicable.

Xi was very forthcoming with details early on. However he didn't appreciate being slandered by Trump, nor did he particularly appreciate us pulling out of pandemic response and research. The research blackout happened after all of that.

Besides, anyone with half a brain could follow the news and realize that it spreads from person-to-person, as well as being airborne. There were LOTS of things we found out about it, but because WHO/CDC didn't want anyone to panic, all of those discoveries were downplayed and disputed as histrionics. For fark's sake, we knew it caused infertility while it was still in South Korea.

I mean, shiat, airborne spread should have been dead obvious and crowed nonstop in the media after we found out just how small it's size was.

But Trump said there was no need to panic. And here we are.

Oh, I'm sorry.  I didn't realize we were supposed to invent our own reality for this discussion.  I'll have to bow out though as there's plenty of stuff going on in actual reality worth discussing.

Overall, an estimated 299,028 excess deaths occurred from late January through October 3, 2020

Hopefully early in 2021 we can finally get a final count of total death certificates from 2020. I bet it breaks the 450 000 mark.

November and December will add over 100k to that.  And then in Q1 2021, we'll see the holiday impact.

And let's just hope that the vaccine provides long-lasting immunity, because a lot of people in the US won't get one, and in other countries won't be able to afford one.

So COVID-19 will still be bouncing around the globe for a while, if not indefinitely like the flu.  Once you get your two shots, you'll just have to hope it worked for you (95% success means 5% failure) and that it will last for life.

Covid isn't going anywhere. In fact, I'll bet a grand that case loads will skyrocket after widespread inoculation just because maskholes think it's a vaccine that prevents infection as opposed to a prophylactic.

You think we have too many assholes now who don't want to wear masks? Just wait till people who have been good about safety precautions suddenly join in with the anti-mask crowd.

I hope when the vaccine comes your family is at the front of the line.

// So many people have respiratory illnesses. And this thing is making life a slow moving horror movie.

The terrible thing is that masks don't protect the wearer from catching the virus so much as they prevent the wearer from spreading the virus.  For any of us to be safe, we need everyone else to behave.  And it's just not happening, because a big block of the country cares only about themselves.

Nationwide, that would mean 415 000 dead from COVID... so North Dakota is about the same rate as the rest of the country if you count excess death.

January 1-Oct 1 excess death was 350 000.

By the end of the year its gonna probably be 50%+ that.

We'll see the real death numbers in 2021 or 2022 and it will be much worse than what is reported right now.
