Gonna be a lot of folks thrown out of a LOT more places.

I think after the first couple of times there's a supercut of them all, with Donnie being the first, set to the Benny Hill theme, it may cure folks with delusions of competence that this is a good idea.

It is a problem, but embarrass them enough in public, and the cure is pretty damn quick.

You knew this was going to happen.  Going forward no losing GOP candidate will concede defeat.  Every election they lose will be dragged into court.  The GOP will henceforth be solely focused on undermining democracy (whereas that was just a side gig previously).

If we're lucky, their voters will become disillusioned and refuse to vote in protest.

I'm hearing Trump has raised about $150 million post election for legal challenges and, as per the fine print, paying down "campaign debt" (much of that presumably going straight to Trump Corporation accounts).

He's in this thing for one reason: himself.

Trashing US democracy in this batshiat crazy process versus Trump paying himself? That's only ever going to have one answer if you're Donald J Trump.

2020-12-02 5:00:44 PM
OH!  He signed the concession speech on the Resolute Desk--but that's not the official desk any more the big boy desk is so it DOESN'T COUNT and by tricking Biden into reading it, Trump is now President for 8 more years.

What sociopaths learn from experience is that you will always be rewarded for breaking the rules.

Got in trouble for breaking the rules? Break the rules again to get away with it.

Lie, cheat and steal.

Still in trouble? Keep breaking the rules until you win.

There is no plan B. Nothing less than victory is acceptable.

Thankfully, someone not conceding a lost race means jack-all.  It's not like the winner doesn't get seated just because the loser doesn't acknowledge the loss.  It just show the wider world they're a goddamn moron who behaves like a four year old that lost a playground game.

And just like the four year old's temper tantrum, the root cause is all the same: a desire for attention.  Problem is, the wider world gives it to them so their tantrum is successful.

What we need is for all these people who "influence" the conversation to make everyone who voted for these clowns feel stupid for it.  Then maybe we can get them to stay home and force Republicans to run quasi-sane candidates.

They've learned to filibuster elections too.

I'd like to think this will cost them, but it will more likely fatigue left leaning voters. Now every time a sorta undecided voter enters the booth they have the thought of "if I vote Democratic, there's three more months of this", and that will affect them. Just like "If Clinton wins, expect daily fishing expeditions" did.

American voters are the abused spouse of the GOP, and they defend them instead of throwing them out because they're afraid of what happens if they oppose the abuser and they don't get thrown out.

One of the foundations of conservative "thought" in their media world is that democrats have an implacable hatred of America and therefore no legitimate right to government. That's not my theory, that's even how many conservatives view their mission.

Another foundation of conservative media is that it does not exist to inform the public or to hold "legitimate" politicians to account, but to support and reinforce whoever is the current leader of the republican party.

It's something that has never really been seen outside of stalinism, which was literally it's inspiration. The party is always right and is greater than the individual. Every "real" republican understands this instinctively even if they can't articulate it.

No, concessions are not required, but democracy only functions as long as nearly everyone involved respects the integrity of the system by accepting electoral outcomes as legitimate. If refusing to accept the legitimacy of electoral losses becomes the new normal for the the Trump GOP, the long-term consequences for American political stability will be far worse than the long-term consequences of mismanaging the pandemic. Do not underestimate the long-term risks, and consequences, of this behavior if it is not stopped.

The Party is spraying the sociopolitical equivalent of gasoline everywhere. Sooner or later, they're going to hit a source of ignition.

Free Radical: Trump's Legacy.

The founders' legacy, for their numerous compromises with slavers which resulted in the structural issues like our voting system (which I can't name here lest it get filtered), the electoral college, and a couple centuries of oppression for people of color.

In fearing "too much" democracy they bent to slavers and created a system which encourages extremism and hands disproportionate political power to a regressive minority, who often rules over the majority much to everyone's detriment. Joe Biden won the election by almost 7 million votes. We shouldn't have been wringing our hands at ALL that he might "lose" the election anyway, under our stupid goddamned system.

Republicans formally discarded democracy and have been hell-bent on one-party rule since Newt in the 1990s.

The obvious answer is to have two separate governments, that way no ones feelings are hurt.

2020-12-02 5:31:23 PM
One of the sneak previews about the GOP and their seeming inherent belief that they and they alone should (not) govern this once great country happened in Colorado in 2008 when Marilyn Musgrave lost her seat in the House 44% to 56%.

She was from and represented what is now the Trumpiest part of Colorado (the part that looked into splitting off to form their own state within the last decade when it was clear they'd likely never have the governor's office again).  At the time, though, Colorado was true purple and though her area was quite red, it had a slice of blue which was at the time it was drawn considered small enough it was a safe, conservative seat.  Her loss meant 7 democrats and only 2 republicans from Colorado in Congress.  Musgrave never, ever conceded.  Never congratulated her opponent, never talked to the press, just sulked and disappeared from public life  She did not claim any election fraud, but absolutely said she was sabotaged by leftist special interests. basically.

As a congresswoman, she was petty, self-important, socially conservative and basically loathsome.  The last part is how she lost a fairly conservative area.  Opposing gay marriage was her signature position, supported a constitutional amendment against it.  Since being voted out, she's been working with anti-choice candidates.

In the 2010 re-districting, the slice of blue was cut out and added to Boulder's district.

Isn't that what we have now? One government for Republicans, the other for Democrats?
