Wait....everyone may not hate that.

I actually like that song. It's weird that the Fark survey asks for the song you like and others hate, and yet you just mention the song you hate. I don't get it.

CSB - It is our holiday tradition to see the nutcracker every year for the last 20-ish years (believe it or not but Houston has one of the best and most well paid ballet companies in the country).  Every year you have people who don't give two shiats about the ballet and the typically stand out because of their rudeness - talking during the show, wearing a big farking cowboy hat because they were told to "dress up" and so on.

Well, in 2018, "Nutcracker and the Four Realms" came out so that December you saw droves of people, who have never been to *any* live theater/orchestra, dragging belligerent kids and uninterested husbands along.  It was almost chaos.  One woman had to be escorted screaming out of the damn show because she was, initially, acting like it was the kid's matinee at the local AMC and someone told the ushers to get her the fark out.  It was nuts.

Last year we saw it performed by a local/regional company and this year it's not showing (for obvious reasons).  I'm hoping the next time we can see it there are less people present who don't care about it.

I like that McCartney song, too.

Helps that I hear it, maybe, twice each year.  I'm sure if it was on a loop where I worked retail or service it would be right up there on the despise list with 'The Little Drummer Boy'.

Feliz Navidad. Our band plays it, most actively like it... and the bandleader hates it with a burning hate, and nobody can explain why. Neither will she.  She may have a problem wit the Spanish words. Is she racist against Mexicans? Hard to know but I live in a rural agrarian setting, so... maybe?

Not an answer to the question, but somewhat on topic. My son asked me what my favorite Christmas song was the other day and I told him The Little Drummer Boy. Right now he is playing and trying to sing it but he doesn't know the words other than Pa rum pum pum pum. Pretty darn cute.

My kids last year were 2 and 4, and man did they LOVE Dominick the Christmas Donkey.  They sang it off and on until Summer.

My wife has a plan not to play any radio Christmas music, only curated playlists of non-Dominick music...

...We'll see.

I just enjoy hearing it a few times during the holidays. I think it's quirky, yet melodic. Or something like that.

Same with Mannheim Steamroller but I like both.

CSB: Years ago, I went to see Mannheim Steamroller (Houston) - the concert was in the Summit before Joel Osteen took it over if that gives any indication.  Anyhow, at one point, they start playing this "fluty" music and a bunch of little people dressed as elves come out on stage and started dancing around, I kid you not.  I, unintentionally loud, with an English accent, said, "No one knows who they were, or what they were doing..."   I don't think the laughing around us stopped for a couple of minutes and my mother and wife were still crying five minutes later.  I think it is all they remember about that concert.

Yes. All the above.

I really like "O Come, All Ye Faithful", but only in the Latin version (Adeste Fideles).

Natum videte, regum angelorum just sounds cool.

I think the crescendo in the chorus can be done much better, because of the plosives and dentals in the Latin, whereas the English chorus is too breathy.

I saw Mannheim Steamroller live in Boulder before they were known as the Christmas band they are now (Macky Auditorium which seats around 2000) .  It was after the first Christmas album came out, but before they blew up.  Fun show, great musicians.  And how often do you see someone in a full tuxedo and tails bang something out on toy piano?

Christmas carols are overdone pieces of cheap treacle for the most part. That song does remind me that a shining, although very brief, outbreak of sanity is possible.

The only friend from HS that I still keep in touch with is the reason I love that song.  As a child he thought the chorus started with "Please mommy stop...".  Still makes me chuckle.
