well, to Americans, it's chocolate.
They wouldn't know real chocolate if you wrapped it around a cute little toy you had to assemble.
Because that would be illegal.

That's a pretty harsh treatment just for complaining about a commercial.

Well, the new commercial has black people in it so....

what, is one of them gay and another black?

Tonight on Tucker Carlson: Tucker hits hard on Michele Buck, the Chairman, President, and CEO of The Hershey Company; "This filthy liberal, commie, baby killing c*nt had the nerve to NOT ONLY change Americas favorite Christmas commercial but she put f***ing N-BOING IN IT! This is the last straw America, Liberals have gone to far!! Time to lock and load Patriots! Look at the bottom of your screen, yeah, that's exactly what you think it is, that's the home address of Michele Buck, go to her house right now, break the door down and kill her!"

"I don't mind an ADDITIONAL holiday commercial for Hershey's, but warping the classic bells commercial SUCKS!" one person commented on the YouTube video of the new ad.

"Twitter wasn't even giving us enough material for clickbait about bullshiat controversies, we've had to resort to using YouTube comments."

Works for me and updates the kiss bells thing nicely.

The big size Hershey's plain and special dark bars have been huge parts of Pandemic life around here.  Huge.

The chocolate in Kinder eggs is not good chocolate. It's dry and it lacks flavour. Once I found a Turkish Kinder egg clone. That one had quite decent milk chocolate and a good quality toy inside. I've looked for more with no success.

Not everyone cares enough to spend three times as much to get Lindt or Godiva or whatever. So unless you've got a better alternative at the same price point, you're just telling everyone they should spend more money.

That's much better than original. Sadly, I think we all know why there are objections.

The German Kinder Suprise eggs always had the best items in them.  Have had a few of them shipped in over the years just because.

And yeah, US chocolate mostly sucks but you can find some good stuff if you look.

The original commercial really is a great piece of advertising. But the fact is, it's just an ad for cheap chocolate. People need to calm down and get grip.

Let me stress again:  the objections are in the YouTube comments.  Find a video with at least 30 comments that doesn't have at least 10 saying how much the video sucks.  "Journalism" in 2020 sucks as much as, well, 2020.

That's usually how things kind of work if you want something of better quality. That being said, a quick google showed $.66 per oz of Hershey's compared to $.82 for Lindt. So you're not paying much more for something substantially better.

I don't hate Hershey though. It's fine for what it is.

I don't get it. I mean the outrage. From this I gather that there are people outraged every time someone other than Harland Sanders plays the Colonel in a KFC commercial?

Walmart sells Hershey's chocolate candies year round in big bags for $5 per pound, or $.31 per ounce. Where are you going to get Lindt for that cheap?

Since they really don't make the same product I was straight up comparing a Hershey bar vs. a Lindt bar.

Product wise the closest I could find were milk chocolate Lindt truffles for $.62 oz but of course that's not close to the same thing. If they did offer just plain chocolate pieces similar to Hershey kisses/nuggets then it's reasonable to assume their price would be around $.37-.42.

So yeah, it's going to be a bit more expensive but hardly anywhere near the 3x cost you originally stated. And with the quantities you usually consume this stuff then it's not unreasonable to spend a little more here for the increased quality.

Why yes, I am bored tonight.

I like European chocolates as well, but there's a nostalgic familiarity to Hershey's. The sharp, tangy undertones  give it something extra, something unique. I'm glad they've stuck with their recipe.

Eurofolk complain that it tastes like vomit, but they think Root Beer tastes like toothpaste so 🤷♂. It's butyric acid, the same thing that gives Parmigiano cheese its bitter tang.

Unfortunately, complaining about Hershey's has become a way for online Americans to try and show their worldly sophistication - after all, trying to peacock your refined taste on internet has no real cost involved.

Don't like it, don't eat it, but I'd rather have more variety than less.

I thought I would not care. Only listening, when the brass came in it was like a spike in my ear and I shut it off.

I did not even realize there was a race thing in it until I saw it in the comments.

Hate new add, and am sad at myself.

You don't get to make up a product that doesn't exist and then arbitrarily price it way lower than everything else Lindt makes.

The cheapest Lindt you could find was $.62 per ounce (I'd like a link btw, I'm buying at that price because Lindt is yummy).

Walmart has 35.9 ounces of Hershey assorted minis for $8.98 on their website (link at bottom of post) which works out to $.25 per ounce.

62 cents per ounce vs 25. So the Lindt only costs 2.5 times as much, not three times as much. It's not like the difference is only 25%, which would totally be worth paying.

Just kidding. Haven't had a Necco wafer in decades but my memory is that they're the candy version of a "so bad it's good movie."

How am I arbitrarily pricing it "way lower" than everything else they make?  It's an educated guess based on their other offerings.  The original argument was that Hershey's was garbage chocolate but not everyone wants to pay 3x more for good shiat.  So I took the standard Hershey's offering (bar of chocolate) and compared it to Lindt's and it was at most 40% more.  That's all I was pointing out.

Here are the $.62 oz. truffles by the way.

https://www.target.com/p/lindt-lindor-milk-chocolate-truffles-15-2oz/-/A-16694608#lnk=sametab

This is basically the closest thing to a Hershey's miniature they make.  It's reasonable to think if they just put out little solid chocolate squares then they'd cost a bit less.
