Since its inception, Fox News has been a cesspool of lies and right-wing propaganda.

I disagree with that....in the early 2000s, they did a great job covering the War on Terror and other less politically-oriented topics. Timely, excellent visuals and graphics, etc. They reinvigorated cables news as much as CNN did in the 80s when they invented the concept.

It was only later, after their opinion segments (mostly O'Reilly) started getting amazing ratings that they shifted their programming to more polarizing topics and stopped just giving us the news. Their slight bias became an insane bias, which is about the time I cut the cable.

All the other networks followed their lead, each with their own flavor. It's like they're all creating a semi-imaginary political war that's a caricature of normal humans and then profiting from it. Imagine that.

Television is a complete cesspool, and spews nothing but garbage.

Cable News is just pro wrestling without the tights.

The War on Terror was purely political.  Remember the Axis of Evil?  Iraq got invaded, Korea got nukes, and Iran is still ready to go either way.

Cable TV has been pure politics since the 90's.

It's rather hilarious.

"fark you Fox News, libulards!, we're going to Newsmax"

Newsmax does anything to trigger the cult...

"fark you Newsmax, we're going to OANN"

OANN does anything to trigger the cult

"fark you OANN, we're going to ______"

It's a whirlwind of derp, concentrating the cult, exiling anybody and anything who even shows a shred of doubt. It's sort of terrifying, but ultimately it's healthy. Divide and conquer, biatches.

I can't imagine Fox is worried at all. Newsmax is underwater in debt and this is basically their last play for survival, and OANN is beyond shiat tier and doesn't reach many homes.

They're looking at years of no access to the White House and only the safest republicans would bother giving them time. Fox has massive piles of cash they can wait for the competition to implode, and they will implode.

So I work in manufacturing, and as such we're expected to count the number of parts we make during each step of the operation. Over the last month it seems like quite a few people have just stopped bothering to count their parts in the steps before my operations. At first I thought it was just general laziness, but then I realized I was wrong and it's finally happened:some of my coworkers have been dumbed down to the point where they can't count anymore.

It was really in 08 that they went off the deep end.

They've always had a stronger political bent then other news stations.  They were overtly political, but not to extreme levels.

But something happened in 2008.  I'm not sure what it could be.  You'd think there might be a clear black and white moment to put your finger on and say "that's what happened."  But I just can't figure it out.

yeah - I remember that.  Late 90's/early '00's Fox had a slight rightish tilt, but was more like WSJ or The Economist.  CNN was always just kind of a bland middle of the road that tilted toward sensationalism, but wasn't as respected as CBS Evening News*.  Early on, Fox seemed a bit more highbrow than CNN, a bit less breathless and sensationalistic, a bit more grown up.  The slide toward being a 24/7 flashy graphics and ticker-scrolling peek into Drunk Uncle's ID developed over time.

MSNBC was sort of a techy news source - it was trying to get a foothold as the preferred news source for young, educated, and technologically oriented.  Smokin' hot Soledad O'brien talking to that weird CGI dude on The Site was the evening news.  It was, after all, a partnership between Microsoft and NBC.

*I really think Dan Rather getting canned for the fake Bush cadet documents are the biggest thing that pushed people to their various cable news corners.

"War on terror" is a political euphemism.  Right there next to "states rights", "war on drugs", "family values", etc.  They're all invented terms to avoid the language of the previous century.  It's all the same racist, sexist, homophobic, and/or xenophobic bigotry.

It sounds like a spiraling drug habit. You started with a prescription for Foxycontin. It didn't seem so bad, it satisfied an urge, it delivered just the right dose of stigginit, and you figured you could quit. But it got old and before long you found yourself wanting to go further down the rabbit hole. A friend introduces you to fentOANyl and soon you're mainlining that shiat. You know there are side effects but you don't care as long as fentOANyl delivers you that sweet, sweet lib-ownage. The manufacturers of Foxycontin knew they were going to lose customers, so they upped their dosage to dangerous levels to lure you back. And now they're working on a product you can crush and snort.

Dumbing down the work force has been the goal of management for over 100 years.

This should be fun...

Some of those are interesting statistics, but none are remotely evidence of anything untoward.

The first two and #6 & #7 are a result of the huge surge in overall numbers of people who voted- with such an increase in total voters it's not remotely surprising both candidates got more votes than were needed to win in the past.

3-5 are definitely interesting- though #4 is a bit useless without knowing whether that's % of voters or # of them. And for #3 as I understand it at least a modest bit of that was among Cubans in Florida because of his walking back the push for normalizing relations with Cuba that Obama started.

8-11 are interesting from a statistical standpoint, but I'm betting in any election there are similar trends that have been broken.

12 & 13- (R's won across the country but Trump lost, R's won toss-ups)- Well, yeah. Based on the other data, the main reason that Trump lost was that the D's- who are typically more concentrated in cities- came out in force... but most elections are on a smaller scale, and thanks to gerrymandering many times despite a metro area being very liberal it's carved up such that the R's can still win seats there. My own (and Fark's) home ground is like that- Lex-Fayette's voting power is offset by the congressional district including enough of the heavily conservative surrounding area to keep it going for the Republican candidate.

The last 4 are frankly absolutely laughable to include given the fact that the Republicans in many cases didn't -allow- anyone else on the primary ballot. How many votes you receive in a primary- especially one where you're the only one on the ballot- is useless info in determining whether you'll win an election.

2020-12-01 1:09:41 PM
You have to remember...

The right doesn't think, they feel.

They don't read the news to find out what happened, they want their feelings validated so they will go with whatever outlet provides this.

They are also incapable of admitting when they got something wrong or when their "media" people mislead them. They will double down and claim the sources that show they were wrong are "biased" so they can't be considered credible.

They become less connected to reality with each passing day.

Watching them eat their own is fun.
