Jesus, for a minute I thought you meant he died.  I hope he has a.... swift recovery.

Well, since he's clinched the driver's championship this year and also has the most wins all time for a driver he can take a race or two off.

First race he'll miss since his debut.

My thoughts exactly. Plus, after Grosjean's accident, maybe he's like, "Um, fellas, I need a break."

And Mercedes have already won the constructors championship too, so I'm sure Toto's like, "fark it; go ahead. you earned it."

Vandoorne flies in as he's their contracted reserve, but people are expecting they'll offer the seat to George Russell and Vandoorne will occupy George's seat instead.

Toto's voicemail: 99 missed calls from Hülkenberg.

The other drivers should be careful, they'll all get it 26 seconds later.

Apparently you can't out run it on a scooter

Better warn Bieber

Lewis this is James, wear your goddamn mask

Noticed this week he was being kinda lax with the mask

It'll be interesting for sure. Wonder who else on the team caught it. If Bottas has it too this weekend could be veeeewy interesting indeed.

/give Russell a shot

I'm with the "give George an audition" crowd. As fun as it might be to see Waffle come in and win a race.

Hulk's surely going to be subbing for GRO this week?

I was reading something the other day about how Russell's got a raw deal from F1 compared to his contemporaries, and, well, in 2018 he won F2 by 68 points from Lando, who was 7 points clear of Albon. So, yeah, it would be fun to see him in a good car.

No, Pietro Fittipaldi's in for Grossjean.

Oof. Was wondering if this may have been a case of a false positive but seeing that he actually had some symptoms and a close context to catch it? Hoping he doesn't get any sicker, I can't imagine an F1 driver remaining in top form with even a small bit of the lung damage that bug gives.

A possible explanation for Stroll's downturn in form, aside from the rotten luck, is his COVID positive earlier in the season.

Yeah, Lewis is likely done for 2020. He probably won't mind too much.

Apparently, he was already due to join Mercedes in Bahrain this week after doing Formula E testing. And for Russell to take the seat, they'd have to cut a deal with Williams. I don't see them doing anything more than just putting Vandoorne in the seat.

/And if they were to put Hulk in, I think that would open a can of worms for Mercedes
//If he wins, it just feeds the belief that its the car that's good and Lewis benefits from that
///If he kicks Bottas' ass, it just shows that BOT is rubbish

Wrong. It'd actually break the last seal of the Apocalypse. A Hulk podium is the only thing left.

Grosjean doesn't think it's all that it's cracked up to be and calls it pedestrian.

Stroll's season had gone left after that bad wreck in Tuscany. He hasn't really been the same since.

Some of you might get your wish after all. This is from a writer for the F1 website:

George Russell is leading contender to replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes for Sakhir GP, providing they can come to an arrangement with Williams to borrow him. Stoffel Vandoorne, Mercedes reserve, can slot in if not. #F1 #Mercedes #Williams

I'd love to see what Russell can do in a decent car. And give him feedback to take back to Williams.

If either Russell or Hulk race the Merc and finish on the podium, would that give Mercedes some leverage in their negotiations with Hamilton?

Hamilton's current expiring contract was for $180 million (not sure if it was euros
or pounds), so I don't think he's all that worried about negotiating.

I can't imagine anyone, even a veteran like Hulkenberg or a talent like Russell, getting what Lewis got out of the car.

That, and Hull and George are both about a foot taller than Hamilton, so the seat won't be too comfortable in the literal sense.

Cant vouch for Bottas, though. His 2020 is ending worse than his 2019.

I think there is little doubt that half the drivers in the sport right now could likely finish on the podium in that car. But Hamilton is just in a different league.

That's not "Well he had the best car". The guy beat teammate Alonso in is first year in F1, on the podium in his very first race, on the podium his first nine races, won his sixth ever F1 race, scored points in 48 consecutive races.....

Lewis has had Alonso, Rosberg, Button and Bottas as teammates, and AFAIK has never had #1 driver status with his teammate required to defer to him. They've all been free to race him.

If Mercedes could throw another driver into that car and get the same results for a fraction of the cost they would. Maybe ten current drivers are almost as good as him. It's that last 1% that makes all the difference.  Time and time again when the pressure is really on Lewis just seems to be able to pull something out of the hat.

I really rated Valteri when he was at Williams. But he's never really shone at Mercedes, and he's having terrible luck the last few races. Getting lapped by your teammate is never a good thing.
Makes me rate Rosberg higher in retrospect for beating Lewis to a championship, though even that involved some bad luck on Lewis's part.

Definitely sounds like that's possible.

Also, Haas has confirmed Mick Schumacher for next year and it is apparently possible that if Grosjean can't return for Abu Dhabi; Mick will get his F1 debut there.

I feel for Van Doorne though.

"So I get to drive the Merc?"

"Well, no.... Russell's going to do that."

"Oh... well, the Williams then?"

"About that....  no."
