Out of those four? Is this a joke? Little Shop of Horrors in a landslide. Better songs, better plot, better actors.

At least out of the other three Grease is actually good. It's just overhyped. Though Olivia Newton John in leather pants is pretty damned nice.

I'd happily vote for that one but they're not counting animated ones.

Well, certainly none of those four.

One of these:

Rocky Horror
West Side Story
Singin' in the Rain
The Wizard of Oz
Cannibal! The Musical.
Stormy Weather
A Hard Day's Night

Little Shop is the champ, no competition.  It should be that vs Rocky Horror if we really want to hear things up.

Of course not.  God forbid a musical actually be entertaining.

I have never laughed as hard in my life - before or since- the first time I saw that movie at an employees only midnight showing the night before release. There was almost no warning ahead of time it was going to be a musical. What a delightful surprise that was.

Perhaps a little divisive or heavy for their list but it appeals more to my classic rock sensibilities.

No, because Rocky Horror is a *HORRIBLE* film.   The only saving grace is that it's got a lot of catchy tunes.   Take out those tunes, and it's Plan 9 From Outer Space bad.  I think that's part of the appeal, especially for young people just out from under their parents thumbs, away at college.   That's where it became a cult hit.

Little Shop Of Horrors isn't quite as good musically, but it's miles above RHPS in terms of the non-musical bits.

The best thing I can say about the movie version of Rent is that Chris Colombus adequately captured why it was a mediocre stage show to begin with.

And Lindsey Ellis' breakdown was spot on.

Fails without "Paint your Wagon."

It has everything. Drunk and surly Lee Marvin. Bigamy. French tarts. Corrupting youth. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. And shenanigans to spare.

Animated musicals will not be on this list. And they must be a movie version. So, as much as it pains me, Hamilton does not make this tournament.

The songs further the plot in a musical. Which they do in Grease. The songs could be entirely removed from the Blues Brothers and the plot would stay exactly the same. So It's not a musical.

I love South Park BLU, Rocky Horror, Little Shop, and many others mentioned here.

But there's no real doubt the best movie musical is Singin' In The Rain.

B-b-b-but they're hip bohemian artists.

Although it does take the supposed musician a full goddamn year to write one love song, and the supposed filmmaker is basically shooting boring home movies that are of zero interest to anybody outside of their circle of friends.

I say this without hyperbole. I'd rather watch creepy CGI cat people singing Andrew Lloyd Webber songs for two hours than these farking losers.
