I mean, everyone's stuck inside, so they spend more on indoor activities. Definitely the right choice of tag.

Also that, it's nice to be able to bury oneself in a virtual world for a while to step away from the shiatshow that is 2020.

Folks are surprised that the 50+ set are living in MMOs these days, I guess.

I work in the video game industry.  I'm kind of happy we are seeing record sales, it could mean a bigger bonus later on.  But this can't last.  People are starting to go stir crazy.  They need to get out and do stuff.  Also, people are going to stop buying video games because their money is going to run out.  I expect next year's video game sales to suck.

Exactly. Escapism with a sense of "accomplishment" and being mentally active, is a potent combination. There is less passivity than watching hours and hours of video streaming/TV, there is engagement with others virtually so some real-time socialization from online games/MMOs. And who doesn't feel better after killing some pixels to stave off frustration and isolation?

I tell you, there's nothing more satisfying and cathartic than landing an ambush on a particularly potentially problematic artillery-heavy army with my Sisters of Avelorn doomstacks.

A couple more years, and some of my WoW characters will be old enough to vote.
