Tied with Adam West, Michael Keaton, and Christian Bale for the best live action Batman ever.

His work on The Animated Series was legendary, but he still managed to find a way to blow my mind with his work on the Arkham series voice work. When I hear Batman, that's what I imagine. But the simple changes in inflection and demeanor in just his voice give both characters the dimensions they deserve, and probably more so than any actor to take up the role.

He's always the voice I hear in my head reading Batman

Weatherkiss: I don't know, he's no Val Kilmer.

You know, Kilmer was a pretty good Batman. He could've been a great one, if they had given him a better script.

Seriously, I would've loved to see a Batman movie that played to Kilmer's strengths. I mean, have you seen "Tombstone"? Or, even better, "Spartan"? He was exactly right to play Batman.

/the Nolan Batman movies were awful
/so were the Tim Burton movies
/probably too late in the game to hope for a decent Batman live-action movie

Every time I see "Justice League: Doom," when he's calmly telling the rest of the Justice League to fark off if they don't like the fact that he's constructed contingency plans for all of them? Yeah.

On the CW's 'Crisis on Infinite Earths', he got to play an old, battered, bitter Bruce Wayne.  One who walked around with an exoskeleton, after the fight in which he had murdered that reality's Superman.

He still had some Kryptonite on him, and tried to kill Supergirl with it.

Somewhere there's an alternate reality where he played a live-action Bruce/Batman in the late 80s. Still, I wish DCAU Wayne didn't end up so miserable, even if it gave us Batman Beyond. I never liked it once he stopped trying to separate their voices, although his current voice doesn't really sound like either BTAS Bruce or Batman.

When they announced the first Arkham game I was skeptical, as it had been a long time since anyone made a Batman game that was actually good.  But when I read they got Conroy and Hamill to reprise their roles I was pretty much sold, especially since Hamill had recently said he was done voicing Joker (yeah, I know, he's said that a lot)  Getting the original voice of Harley Quinn was a good touch, too.

I still think it would have improved the Nolan movies if they dubbed Conroy's voice for the Batman scenes.  Would have been way better than Bale's Batman 'voice'.

Olan Soule has such an incredible resume.  He was a regular on Dragnet, and was in at least one episode of all the biggest shows of the 60s and 70s.  Then was Batman, which put him in all the top animated shows.

For me, even though I was born in 1981, Soule WAS animated Batman.

I'm not a huge Batman Beyond fan, but at least they always understood, from the first episode of the animated series on, that Batman's story is supposed to be a tragedy. In Mask of the Phantasm, when young Bruce Wayne finally gives up any hope of a normal, happy life and becomes Batman, it's played as a deeply tragic moment. Absolutely perfect.

Just the right mix of psychotic menace behind that dead smile... his levity had a certain deadly terror behind it, like a Black Mamba freed from its cage, slowly surveying you from across the room.

Val took the role seriously enough to actually make it convincing. The rest of what you said is borderline trolling.

Phil LaMarr is awesome in several ways.

Back when twitter was smaller, I was able to exchange some tweets with him as we were both watching the same baseball game at the time.

this moment should be more ingrained in the mythos than the pearls hitting the ground.

"It doesn't hurt so much anymore. I can give money to the police, let them take the risk. It's different now. I know I made a promise, but I never counted on being happy. Please tell me it's ok."
Bruce pleading to not be Batman. So much better than the crazed lunatic that's just the Punisher without a kill count.

Yeah that's an excellent example of who Bruce Wayne should be.  But to be fair to Nolan almost none of the previous incarnations got that either, except for Keaton in the first one.  He was the only one that really showed Wayne as being unhinged.
