A better analogy might be the relationship between the Emerald cockroach wasp and the cockroaches they target.

The better analogy is shiat in a pile of shiat.

The tongue-eating isopod, the candiru that swims up your penis hole, the horsehair worms that grow to frightening length as they turn their insect hosts into zombies, and the loa loa worm that we can feel moving around in our eyeball--where it lives--are all part of God's beautiful and perfect plan.

Yes, we know this.  But because of "free speech" or something we can't do anything about it.

Our Constitution is like the QWERTY keyboard of governing documents--it's inefficient and rife with problems, but would take too many people, too much time, and too many resources to meaningfully change.  People like to tout that we have the "oldest democracy" or whatever, but its longevity isn't due to durability--it's due to inertia.

You're treating a symptom while the disease rages on, consumes the human race. The fish rots from the head, so they say. So I'm thinking, why not cut off the head?

Nope. The entire GOP is invested in the media machine. Before Fox News, it was CNN. Before CNN it was the New York Times. I totes disagree with the anal/ogy.

We've already discussed this and the correct analogy for the GOP is the human centipede. Suckers get fed bullshiat that they believe and then come up with their own bullshiat to pass on to other suckers. TFA says that conservative media took over with Trump. But what about the Tea Party? That was driven by right-wing media as well and was just as incoherent and rage-filled as Trump. What about Gingrich's revolution? Or the Southern Strategy? There are no values at the bottom of the pile of grifters that make up the GOP. The Never Trumpers are suckers too. They just got suckered a little earlier.

I've always looked at Amanda Carpenter as one of Ted Cruz's mistresses, and I just could figure out these GOP women. Then, rather than get parasitized by Trump she retained her intelligence and became a commentator who started making sense. Now she's sharing her GOP style fascination for the macabre and disgusting, which half way explains her thing with Ted Cruz. Weird how KelleyAnne  and Alice Stewart were both close Cruz advisers also

FTA: Ask yourself, "Who are the actual leaders of the GOP?" Who truly influences Republican voters?

I don't about who, but I know what influences Republican voters and that thing is hate.

No. The conservative media as we know it was put together by former Nixon bootlickers, to make sure no Republican president was ever held accountable for his actions again.

Cymothoa may weaken the host fish somewhat by feeding on its blood, but doesn't actually control the fish's behavior as far as we know. A better parasite analogy might be a Cordyceps fungus infecting an ant colony.

A parasite invades and overpowers the host. The righr wing was invited and catered to by the GOP. They are guests who decided to set up shop.

I'm guessing the Obvious tag was too busy internally screaming from the analogy.

Honestly, we have a chicken/egg situation really. Did the media create the modern Nazi Republican Party or has the media taken cues from them and crafted the message around that?

Given the amount of dark money funneled from and to both groups by the same megalomaniacal 1%ers honestly I think both are just symptoms of a large, more insidious problem.

No not the "Illuminati" or other bulls shiat conspiracy but a decent enough number of people with too much money acting like Scrooge before the ghost of Christmas Future shows up. Scared, desperate and 100% "taking them all with me" mentality.

Sadly, too many political mafiosos are caught up in the game to really do anything about it. Anyone one else hear a fiddle off in the distance?

We're living in the Laundry Files? This explains so much. We've already seen the equivalents of the Golden Promise Ministries, when does Cthulhu and Nyarlathotep (aka New Management) show up?

I am so sick of this, the GOP has been a con for my entire lifetime, now the establishment con men who set up this shell game are pretending they are shocked, SHOCKED that the GOP base was held together not by the love of free trade, low taxes and deregulation, but by a racist and authoritarianism framework of domestic policy that was used by a real racist and proto-dictator to take the party leadership away from them.

Screw them all, screw the Lincoln Party people who helped set this crap up, screw Charles Koch, Drudge, Joe Scarborough and the Fox News employees who are all trying to claim they were some sort of hostages, not willing participants in the downfall of American discourse by stepping on every black and brown person they could find to elevate themselves in the name of traditional family values to "real" Americans.

I don't think it is so vague a feedback loop. The media that caters to the GOP has a very small cartel of owners. They have strict editorial policies that might have been self-censorship in the 1980s, but were consciously directed by the end of Clinton's presidency. The ownership spans continents (are there not Australian owners of Americana nd British media?), so the Commonwealth has been pretty much co-opted by the directives of American political and financial interests.

Never. Conrad Black was convicted, but the messages of his media empire did not change.

They are up to 40 inches long and you have to roll it around a stick for weeks to coax it out.  Break it, and you get a raging burning infection.  Jimmy Carter's foundation has nearly eradicated it.  Infections have gone from 5.3 million to 53 since 1986.
