medius: these millimeter offside calls are in the rules (sometimes, not always) but so out of the spirit of the game

I agree. Offside reviews need to come under the same terms as other VAR decisions: no falsely-precise lines on the screen, and if its not clear and obvious, advantage goes to the attacker.

HugeMistake: Also, let's get this out of the way. I bailed on the Southampton / Man Utd game not long after the 2nd goal went in. I think I made a huge mistake.

it's not like 150 years ago when parking offside was what they were trying to prevent

AC: Valhalla taught me a cool term: deontology - when the observation of rules is following of forms rather than for the original intended purpose.  When the what becomes more important than the why.

After several years on Fark, and especially on soccer threads, I finally answered my true calling, and changed my handle accordingly.

Cyrene Valantion: Late to the game today, probably not missed much yet.... oh.

FA cup third round draw is shortly as well. I'll post it in here once it's done.

Just saw one:

8th tier Marine FC v Tottenham Hotspur FC

Only the 2nd team from that level to make the 3rd round of the FA Cup and they get to host the current PL leaders
