Hyjamon: remember, if the kids is flagged, they are not allowed back in the school for two weeks.  what are parents to do, they can't just take off two weeks?  I'd bet there is a lot flying under the radar.

One of my kids was exposed and had to quarantine for two weeks.  Negative tests, all alone for two weeks.

The problem with how this whole situation has been approached from the beginning is that everything is a half measure, which is better than nothing, but leaves too many gaps.

havocmike: There's no right answer.
Remote learning on a large scale is a joke even when it works perfectly, and it doesn't work more often than not for most families.
In person learning seemed to be doing well for a while, but it's probably a big factor in this slow creeping surge we've seen since mid October
Instituting a national gap year where we all just agree to say "fark it, we'll take the L, everyone meet back in October. Sorry, everyone born from 2003 to 2015 -  you'll graduate at 19 instead of 18, farking deal with it" seems the best, but completely unrealistic option.

so, you tell me

This is what I was advocating for - just close the schools completely, except for maybe the most vulnerable (Special Ed. and major behavioral issues who can't afford any break). I've been homeschooling my son rather than doing the distance learning because it was more manageable, even working full time than trying to get him to cooperate with the distance learning.

We're still pretending in-person schools have nothing to do with the 'rona increasing. That's why.

Scientific evidence from around the world says that schools don't spread COVID-19. What do you have that's better than scientific evidence? Hydroxychloroquine?

Is it explained how that is possible?  Depending on your job, school is not structured (from a setup/distance/interaction) that much different...at least for my job.  I would think exposure is exposure.  I don't know, I just would like to.  I follow all the guidelines regarding interactions, mask wearing, kids going to school, etc, but I'm missing something that would make it make sense.

GrizzlyPouch: Nana's Vibrator: The infection rates are growing and are about to be out of control.  If you closed the schools to prevent spread but open now at the worst point the US has seen, well, what was the point of closing in the first place?  Since idiots can't stay out of bars and churches we should just let the kids f*ck sh*t up, too?
It's all so willfully senseless at so many levels, allowing spread of sickness and death appears to be intentional.

Willfully senseless is pretending schools opening spreads the virus despite numerous media reports to the contrary.

And also pretending we're all gonna die because Thanksgiving. (just like everybody said abt Memorial Day, then 4th of July, then Labor Day etc)

Willful ignorance in reading bad sources and/or interpreting things incorrectly on your part without keeping up to date on information as it cones out, perhaps?
Getting COVID ir not, varying levels of symptoms, and spreading it are 3 different categories.  Age is another.  Read up, Beavis.

You really have to wonder what happens to some people, maybe they're "are you joking?1" meter breaks.

Like the bus here in MoCo, MD, that's the late bus. Well, sorry, the "L8" - go ahead, tell me *anyone* wouldn't call it the late bus.

Or NYC public schools, reopening... on Dec. 7.

At a guess - and that's the best I can do - schools can enforce stringent precautions on children. For example, I just asked the daughter of friends of mine in [Junior High] school how it works there: Outdoors at all times except for classes, masks at all times indoors, teachers masked when working with individuals or small groups, all equipments, seats and desks wiped down before and after every lesson, hands cleaned before and after each lesson. Her school has been open since August and has had no cases yet.
When cases are reported to schools here, the entire class or year groups (depending on the size of the school) is sent home to isolate for two weeks. All guesswork on my part, but the evidence does seem to be pretty settled that re-opening schools, sensibly, is not a major risk.

Harvard is a better friend.

But thanks, waste of space guy who pretends to hold Republican values but isn't responsible, can't hold a job, and is likely always 5 minutes away from suicide.

Lol, you guys always get so personal when you've got nothing else.

It isn't a game or a sport, there aren't sides or scores. This is real life.

So if you were wrong about something, that's a good thing!  Now you're more educated.  No reason at all to be upset

You thought that was personal?  I just described millions of people.  You're everyone's brother in law.  Or ex-brother in law I should say.  Or an old ex-classmate.

And I don't know why they call it a well-being check.  You guys are always hanging in the closet with an empty bottle nearby.
Word to the wise, though - delete your browsing history first.  A picture of my unemployable everyone else's fault staunch republican ex brother in law's dick is still on the internet, with posts looking for dick.  His wife and kids don't know ... but everyone else does.  And none of us report it to have it taken down.  Because f*ck that guy.

And that's the American left in a nutshell.  Minds full of hatred.  So much so, they'd use the death and suffering of millions during a pandemic.....asa political tool

That's a good interpretation, as if nobody is watching literal efforts at overthrowing government to install an authoritarian regime.

You remind me of an old classmate.  Pulled those nonsense thoughts out of his ass, too.  Posted all over Facebook, watched so much Fox.
He was always telling everyone simultaneously "everything wrong with" minorities while talking about the left being full of hate.   Like you, he watches literal Nazis and KKK members on TV represent him.  Of course back then we had no idea what level of hypocrisy he was capable of.  Yes, he finally saw what he was.  He never admitted it but the proof was all over the railroad tracks.
So when I run into his twin on the internet and out of kindness I offer him the advice of deleting his internet history before he does himself, he thinks that's hate.  No sir.  Delete your tumblr account, too.  Nobody needs to see a writeup of your casual encounters with men at Dunkin Donuts after you're dead.  Especially your fiancèe.  Delete those.

This thread is an excellent example of the ineffectiveness of the US school system that I mentioned earlier.
