The companies will be hiring slightly documented workers.  Biden could just alter the plans and make work tearing down the wall an automatic fast track to citizenship.   The  repair to the land could also be rewarded.

If he hadn't made such a big deal about it, I think we could get Mexico to pay for a wall now to keep out the US plague rats and job seekers.

Maybe what's built so far should stay up as a monument to stupidity.

The best part is, is that it will fall apart rather quickly.

Going to be a few thousand miles short. And the illegals will just use those nice access roads for easier access.

Biden should tear it all down except for one mile to remain as a monument to Trump's stupidity and evilness.  Problem facing Biden will be to get the Senate to agree to the funding to remove the wall.  Of course, Biden could always divert money from something else since the Republicans had no problem with Trump doing just that to build the damn thing.

He could just offer it for free to anyone who wants to haul the scrap metal to a recycling center.

We declared a national emergency to raid the pentagon's construction budget that was earmarked for base housing, schools, and hospitals, to get money for the wall. But no such proactive action for covid.

This is what Republicans do. Trump is just being in Americans' faces in it. You can bet if there were a massive pool of oil discovered below Yellowstone, Republicans would immediately start legislation to allow drilling.

Republicans care about wealth. That is pretty much it. Even the broke ass people who live in mobile homes vote Republican because in their mind they are just temporarily poor millionaires.

Just drill baby! Or blast! Or poison. Or whatever you have to do to the environment to build wealth. The Republican way.

Among the things I'd like to see put behind us in the post-Trump era is the use of "illegal" as a noun.

From TFA:

Some of the costliest and most invasive construction is unfolding this month in Guadalupe Canyon, an oasis-like habitat for rare species of birds like the buff-collared nightjar and tropical kingbird.

Until the blasting crews showed up this year, the canyon was so remote - about 30 miles outside of Douglas, the closest town, on largely dirt roads - that ranchers in the area say illegal crossings by migrants were extraordinarily infrequent.

Now parts of the canyon resemble an open-air mining operation. Work crews are blasting cliff sides on a daily basis to build the wall and access roads to it in one of the costliest portions of construction anywhere on the border.

Emphasis mine.  For the most part, there were already physical barriers up on the border where they would actually be effective.  The areas without them are areas far too dangerous for anyone to try crossing anyway.

2020-11-29 11:23:10 AM
Trump doesn't care if the wall is built or not. He just wants to pay off some of the businesses in case he wants to hit them up for money in 2024. No matter what happens, he'll claim that it was built.

I have a piece of the Berlin Wall on my desk that my FIL brought back from Germany shortly after it fell.  Tear down Trump's wall and sell pieces to liberals like me to fund immigration programs and basic citizenship education for MAGAs.

That fence is miles of scrap metal.

Temporarily subsidize a boost in the payout for turning in scrap metal and Trump's fence will disappear.

This isn't about actually building or completion of "the wall".  It's about allocation of a huge amount of money which will then be diverted through a consortium of contracting companies and LLCs and so forth and somehow back to Trump himself.

It's his grand finale of grifting if you will. The Magnum Opus of corruption before the curtain closes

Easiest solution is to do nothing. The elements and people who hate Trump will take it down for free naturally over time.

No reason to spend anything on it, just let it deteriorate.

Construction done quickly is always solid and enduring.

The funny part:

"Customs and Border Protection officials are still rushing to meet Mr. Trump's mandate of 450 miles of new wall construction during his term, nearly doubling the rate of construction since the start of the year. The administration had built 402 miles of wall as of Nov. 13. Of that, about 25 miles had no barrier before Mr. Trump took office."

Only 425 miles to go.

My first thought, too.  Then I realized that construction sites are never pretty or ideal, neither are the roads. They have the same utility and charm as the porta potties on those sites.

It's not like when the Swiss built the Lötschberg Tunnel, a 10+ mile tunnel complex under the Alps they created a beautiful and huge Chalet for the engineers.

The most important thing is to halt construction through environmentally vulnerable areas.  The damage already done needs to be ameliorated as much as possible.

Would be a fitting tribute to Trump to bury him in the foundation of the wall

Of course it's cheap! How else can cronies pocket most of the money? It's super cheap, and it's barely an inconvenience for the people it's supposed to stop, but at least some corrupt contractors probably grifted some nice piles of money.

/ just because it isn't cheap for us (the US taxpayers) doesn't mean it isn't actually cheap ;)

Well it's nice of them to build construction access so when they do cross there, there's an easy way out.

Hmm, 15 miles of wall in 4years, (3.75 miles pre year), only 1,939 miles to go, or only 517.066 years of Trump.

This proves only three things;
1. Trump's wall needs more Trump.
2. America wants neither.
3. Trump is very low IQ, at best.

Sounds like you know things. Do you know things?  Are you sure?

On the list of stuff we have to fix that Trump broke, where do you rank an ineffective freestanding length of wrought-iron poles sunk into the ground cheaply that falls over on its own in a cat-2 hurricane?
