Why do they let him?

Gov. Parson is bad enough with his refusal to do anything about the situation.. this guy is actively killing his constituents.

There is a mindset here in Florida that DeSantis has done a great job by doing as little as possible. Not only did he barely shut down, he was one of the first to open up and urge opening all things. He has preached against shutting down the economy and about not wanting to inconvenience tourism. His followers claim that Florida is no worse off than places that were locked down. Even if it is proven that Florida has higher percentage of cases and more deaths per capita, NONE of the people supporting DeSantis or GOP will care unless it affects them personally. None of them.

One million?  More like 3 million in Florida.   Back in April, the rule of thumb was to multiply the week-old figures by 10.   Now it's about 3 nationwide based on current figures.

This is so much more than sticking it to the libs.  Most libs are trying their best to not die so I'd guess he's killing his own voting base much quicker than anyone else.
Even all that aside why???

I've noticed a lot of covid deniers on Twitter lately going "HeArt dIsEaSe kIlLs mOrE aMeRicAns ptttthbt!"

And it's, like... First of all, I like the evolving from "iT's Not THAT DeAdLy," to "iT'S NOt THE dEaDliEsT!" Second of all, biatch, don't pretend as though there aren't people telling you to stop cramming so much sugar down your gullet and complaining about the lack of healthy food in parts of America that you're also ignoring. Michelle Obama told these dinguses to eat a goddamn vegetable once in a while, and they still threw a shiat fit over that.

For fark's sake... This country is literally dying because a sizable chunk of the population are farking manchildren.

There is no bottom to the stupidity of a Republican. I'm sure they'd pull their cocks out of their sisters and vote twice maybe three times for such a brave patriot.

In all seriousness most of them are probably hoping he's dead by then, but in the meantime DeSantis is going to do his level best to position himself as the new Trump.

From DeSantis's perspective, everything about Trump's handling of the virus was just vindicated by the election, so he's going to pick that up and run with it.

Yep, people who decide who should live or die by looking at an electoral map, as if we already haven't established time and time again that the electoral college is garbage, are the worst kind of shiat libs. Up there with kinds of people that still stan TLP because they said mean things about Trump.

He next part of this bit would be me asking what his true name is.
At that point you'd say something clever like "it can't be pronounced by the human form" or "the only way to pronounce it is to rip out your tongue and assfark you with it while that weird yodeling Russian dude with the plastic hair makes mouth noises in the background"

But in reality his true name will be something stupid like "hamberder" because with Donnie everything is minimal effort, maximum scam.

This is what I don't understand about these people. He obviously knows that this virus is deadly, so what is him motivation for basically ignoring it? Only thing I can think of is that he has some type of personal financial motivation for letting the outcome be as bad as possible.

I think it comes from frustration, I don't want to see people that take this seriously and try to save themselves and their families get sick and die. But when you have a moron governor, trumpers and the state went red in the election you kind of just want to let them all die. I even get frustrated with the idiots in my state and it is blue. But good luck to you and yours and may only the fools that deny what is going on get sick.

In Australia we have six states and two territories which each have their own legislatures, we've only had one state election since the COVID pandemic (which has had a significant impact here like everywhere but we've had relatively few cases and deaths, nothing like the US numbers).

In Queensland this year, the state government was comfortably re-elected with an increased majority (previously a very narrow majority) significantly in part because they'd stood up to criticisms from the Federal Government about keeping their border with New South Wales closed for longer than the Fed Government wanted.

The border closure was difficult for a lot of Queenslanders, but they supported it and re-elected the government which had kept them safer than they otherwise might have been.

Point is, this insane 'freedumbs' shiat obviously wins votes among the noisy idiots, but a lot of people must be scared about the pandemic too and might actually appreciate it when politicians of either side try and implement measures which stop the spread and thus reduce the deaths. Mustn't they? Are American conservative voters really this suicidal?

Just for a sense of perspective, while DeSantis has been hammering every single COVID statute he can statewide, our Republican mayor here in Jacksonville, Lenny Curry (former chair of the Republican Party of Florida) told him to piss off and put in restrictions of his own. Correspondingly, Duval County has a decently lower rate of infection than other hot spots in the state.

Curry may be evil, but he's not stupid.

Total confirmed cases since the start. A reasonably good number have recovered. Obviously, a significant number have died.

That said, FL has its own determination of case numbers (as it doesn't test as much as other states) and deaths by COVID (tries to claim death was due to some other cause). We'll see in the long run when we compare excess death to prior years.

I get that. I'm in a red state also voting hard blue. There's literally nothing a comment board can do anyways. Comment boards don't form policy. The smarter people ... regardless of red/blue state ... are most likely hunkered down as much as possible. I know we are. It's just sad that the state leadership is in general so lax. So ... I like to think that the "let them burn" thing is more directed at killing off the 45* morans

I'm truly very sorry. I've moved around my whole life, so I look at your post and think "why not"? I've even done some time in Florida. But I get that packing up and bailing isn't easy for everyone.

But yeah, I'm suspecting that will be the choice coming up, regardless of ease. Move to a blue state or get ground to dust in a red one if you aren't a rich, white, Christian man

This business about making Texas (or Florida) purple isn't what seems to be happening.

Sadly, because of our Senate and electoral college this will mean fewer and fewer assholes will get more and more representation/power.

But the recolonization of red by blue isn't what is happening.

President Biden will be the President of all Americans, not just the blue states.  He will listen to the medical experts. We will have a lock down with economic support, and public option healthcare for those who need it, and a mandatory vaccine (allowable under the Nuremberg protocols).  I am grateful the american people put the adults back in charge.  I regret all the people who will die until the fanta menace leaves.

Also the number of people who insist that why they vote for someone is important is mind-boggling. Parsons doesn't give a shiat why people voted for him. All he knows is that he did nothing and then he won. Of course he's going to continue to do nothing. You showed him it was a vote-winner.
