You can't spell Black Sabbath without ABBA

I mean, there's a lot in that list that's a fark of a lot further away from metal than Ozzy.

That's even after accounting for the deaf people that think Lamb of God is in any way talented.

No albums that I've heard, few bands that I've heard OF.

I heard some Body Count live this summer when Wacken streamed it all online, but I didn't know they had a new album.

I'm not sure why Puscifer or Run The Jewels are on that list.

The new Puscifer album sounds more like a heavier Depeche Mode than anything I'd consider metal and while I love RTJ (and have recommended them to multiple metal fans wanting to dip their toes into hip-hop) and their heavy boom bap style it's not metal (and I don't mean that in the usual elitist gatekeeping way that's usually present in these threads - it just has very little sonic resemblance to anything remotely related to heavy metal)

Will say, though I always considered them a 'novelty' act (but would love to see them live, if concerts are ever a thing again), that new Avatar album is a bit of a banger.
Pleasant surprise by them.

/they're a fun band.

I forgot Obscura had a new album out this year.

I'm assuming it's still super fast technical wizardry, may give that a listen later.
I like them and others along their sound (Wormed, for instance), but have shifted a bit away from it a bit. Well, except for that XYTHLIA album.

Seems this year has been more along the lines of 'dissonance', which I suppose is appropriate.

Obscura is the album name.. Semblant is gothic metal from Brazil, with female and male vocalists.

Ah, I was wondering if you shifted listing format half way through your list as I recognized the majority of what I thought were 'albums' as bands.

But yes, there's a band named Obscura as well.
Crazy fast tech metal.

Wait, did they even have an album this year? I know I read about them not long ago...(scampers off to the internets)...nope, 2018.
Huh, now I've got to go article digging...

Ozzy Osbourne with Post Malone?

Christ, 2020 just keeps getting worse and worse.

Puscifer is metal?

Clearly I missed the memo.....

Regardless of how you choose to label it, it is a fantastic record.

Another alternate name for this list, "25 Metal albums by Ozzy Osbourne and 24 other bands most people have never heard of."

I am old, and I like my metal to be from the bands that were metal when I was in my prime.  You know, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Manowar, Motorhead....Ya know, bands that you can understand what the vocalist is actually singing.  Not just growling into a microphone.

2020-11-29 9:02:10 AM
i was confused too, but the list doesnt say "best metal albums", just albums.  Revolver mainly covers metal.. but I guess now it makes more sense that RTJ is on there.

That being said, I am so out of the loop on most new metal.  2000-2012 or so was my peak years where I was both drudging the depths of 80's thrash & rabidly consuming every 'core band I could listen to.  I have the new lamb of god, acacia strain, and code orange, but there are definitely some bands in this list that I need to check out.

Terrible. Mostly albums that aren't metal, and among the few metal albums they're the same sterile shiat that those labels who pay advertisement in these tastemaker zines get pushed.

Havukruunu - Uinuous syomein sota
Ulcerate - Stare Into Death and Be Still

not that I agree with most of it, but at least it's metal.

very weird however to see one overtly NS band on a list that's mostly content from labels with zero such content

Yeah, I was about to bash something out in the comments (Necrot and Puscifer on the same list etc. etc., Revolver doesn't know what the hell they're talking about etc. etc.)  but then I compared the headlines and settled down.

If you're looking to get back in the loop a bit, check out BraveWords They tend to have the same articles you might find on Blabbermouth or whatever but their reviews cover the small bands as much as the big bands and have led me to a lot of hidden gems.  They're usually pretty up front if something sucks too and I've always appreciated that honesty.
