"Give 'em the gas face!"

"At a critical moment when the WHO leadership had the opportunity to rebuild trust among some of its critical member states, it chose a path that did the very opposite and demonstrated its lack of independence from the Chinese Communist Party," Bremberg, the U.S. ambassador in Geneva, said in a statement.
The WHO did not comment, as they were too busy smashing all their medical instruments.

Replace "its lack of independence from the Chinese Communist Party" with "its refusal to declare Communist China solely responsible for the worldwide coronavirus pandemic and/or its refusal to use anti-Chinese racial and ethnic slurs to refer to the virus or the disease," and the Trump administration's press release of their stance on the matter will make a lot more sense.

Nah, Xi Jing Pooh's taint was planted firmly in the WHOs board for refusing to put responsibility at all on China.

Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again

Considering that Trump has now exposed the U.S. as an unreliable leader, why would our country affect anything the WHO wants to do from this point forward? Maybe in four years, Biden is re-elected, or is defeated by Trump 2.0. Then the U.S. leaves the WHO again.

Biden has time to undo this right?  The US is leaving on July 6th, 2021 so theoretically we can correct this mistake but there is just so much to do.

3rd Bass got a little airplay out here in Seattle, too. Still mostly remember the ditty that starts like;

"Chilling like Gilligan, out on an island, fishing with my string and bamboo,
Caught something in a three piece nighty, might be a little tasty,
Up come a three hundred pound white girl!
No one to see this, Boom, I dropped my fluid like a chemist,
She's contained and I'm a lame brain for doing the wild thang,
Kick the * thing off of my swing,
Larger than Jim Backus,
It's the cactus, behind door three."

Good lawd we thought those guys were funny. Cheers, amigo. :)

I think any entity, foreign or domestic, that is dealing with Trump fully realizes that what he says and does means nothing except for the extremely short term, and what they will do is just bide time until an adult administration takes over.

Unless, of course, the relationship is a patronage one like with Putin.

Of course, A: it's not the WHO's job to determine responsibility and make accusations, their job is to keep people from dying in a pandemic and B: they kinda have to not get kicked out of countries if they wanna do said job, so they have to be diplomatic, especially towards twitchy totalitarians.

Why should anybody do anything that Trump says at this point, if we're all together on this democracy thing?

Just tell him "sure we'll do that sir" and then stall til he's gone.

This isn't rocket science.  You didn't vote him out just to have him destroy the country in 30 days.

And they sure did a bang-up job of it by downplaying the threat and amplifying the CCP's claims that COVID-19 wasn't contagious.

Here is why we need WHO.

International organizations often fill the role of a fall guy, whipping boy, arbiter, or whatever.

In this particular case, the US had a team in or near Wuhan that was tasked with keeping an eye on what was happening in that part of China. Because stuff is ALWAYS coming out of there. Like regularly. Like for decades. China allowed that because the US insisted, and China knew it had a problem. And besides WHO is there, so the whole world is ostensibly there already.

Then Trump cuts the US group's funding ooops. So the US is not there anymore. That totally wrecks the balance and leaves WHO hanging in there alone.

Then WHO detects something and what does it do? If it blows the whistle loudly, it gets contradicted and kicked out immediately. If it does nothing, a bunch of people die, and takes all the blame. If the US had been there, then WHO AND the US could have acted strongly. So WHO cooperated as best it could and tried not to get kicked out. It monitored what it was allowed to monitor. China probably also realized eventually that it is WORSE OFF for not having the US there. It will have credibility problems no matter how it gets played.

The point is that international cooperation is ... I will say ALWAYS better. It means more resources and better options in almost all eventualities. It raises credibility and authority. This is a situation where Trump sabotaged US and world interests. WHO did not fail. WHO had an important role, and it changed very quickly. It did the best it could. It was enough for most countries. They figured out that WHO was not in a position to give the whole story because the US was not on site anymore.

As we know, the UN can do very little on its own. Same for WHO. Or UNESCO. Or whatever. These organizations frequently need to be backed up diplomatically to fulfill anything beyond routine objectives.

If China keeps the US out of WHO, China might move in and take credit for ending a lot of disease and poverty throughout Asia, Africa, and South America. It is already happening. That will reinforce their strategy of building global resource and trade networks. Maybe the world will be a better place. Nobody will have too much to say about it either way.

Matte, comp and other 'process' shots were pretty easily accomplished by the time this film was made in the early 1950s. If I remember correctly - and I do - the same cat who did the VFX on the 1930s film was enlisted for the Abbot & Costello comedy.  It's pretty easy to dismiss in 2020, when a few thousand dollars will get you an absolutely absurd technical ability. But these old-school filmmakers were farking brilliant.

Also, Trump sucks. That is all.

Some of it was obvious composing but the way the actors interacted with it all was very well done.

Oh. So THAT's when they meant when they said Trump was playing five-dimensional chess....

TFA> Gostin, who agrees that the WHO should study and revisit its travel guidance, said it was inappropriate for the United States to try to strong-arm the change. He said the list smacked of politics, not good health policy.
"It was all about my country, my politics, my election," he said.

Yup. His denialism was all about his election, his cult, his refusal to admit that it was a bigger problem than he could handle himself and his belief that it would magically go away and not bother his re-election if he ignored it.

Here's how Trump and the Republican Party thought that would work:
