That seems to be the one.

This all confused me until I temporarily read the now-paywalled LVRJ article to see that it was in a house fire. Did he have roots back in CT or something?

After those details on the fire/explosion, I can see why his family presumably wanted to not focus on it in the obit.  What a painful way to die that must have been!

I doubt he was cooking meth or frying a turkey. If needed, the man had people for this I am sure.

I'm guessing improperly stored gas cans.

It happened on Nov. 22. I don't think it was turkey-related.

Hsieh moved Zappos from a suburban Henderson office park to the 11-story former Las Vegas City Hall in 2013.

I forgot that Las Vegas built a huge new city hall and then the housing crisis hit and they didn't need and couldn't afford it.

I worked for Zappos for a couple of years when I first moved to Vegas in 2005. I didn't like it at all. The people were two-faced and creepy but Tony Hsieh was a decent human being. He was very approachable and would talk to anyone. Plus, he actually knew how to operate a business at a loss, which is what they were doing at the time. He was a very smart man. Now I work for a casino company that has no idea how to operate if people aren't literally handing them piles of cash and expecting nothing in return. He also threw the most amazing company parties that I'll ever see in my life. RIP Tony Hsieh, what a terrible way to go.

I've ordered from you! Site was fast, good ability to filter to find the weird stuff I want/need, and excellent info about the shoes. Order was always prompt and correct. Can't say better than that. And yes, what a terrible way to go.

/Dear shoe mfrs, please make wide shoes for women in fashion forward styles. Also, pockets in our clothes. Thank you.

Sounds like a hash oil explosion, though I doubt he was involved doesn't mean someone in that household wasn't. Sudden explosions are pretty rare, even leaking propane tanks don't explode per sea but leaking gas into an enclosed space is the more likely scenario but enough to explode would almost certainly been smelt early.

My sister probably works for that casino company (or one of the other ones in town).  Her corporate team visited Zappos a few years ago to study their culture, and she wasn't impressed, saying that he was too socially awkward, and that's the reason why the company will fail.  She even wrote this in a grad school paper last week, while he was in the hospital but before anyone knew about this.  I love my sister, but yeah, she's being a biatch about this.

Truth is, I wouldn't even consider living here in DTLV if it weren't for him.
