UNIONIZE EVERYTHING

(except the pigs)

2020-11-27 8:10:27 PM
Do not worry, the business friendly SCOTUS will strike down these reasonable measure in the name of things that are not really in the constitution.

For example, money is speech and a religion so you cannot have unions because that may decrease the freedoms of billionaires.

Policies that benefit workers? That's the very definition of socialist communist fascism that will spell the immediate end of the Republic. Good thing Our Great President-God-Emperor will be removing the gold from Fort Knox for safe storage in Trump Dubai under Jesus' watchful eye.

As Hitler said (Mein Kampf, Vol. I) - unions are very important.  Those of us who have worked for example, in an office environment as part of a huge company, will know the way in which junior supervisors or managers can prove themselves unworthy of their surprisingly powerful positions, and attempt to use unsafe disciplinary remedies to advance or restrict the prospects of those under them.   The question is whether your union laws have undergone the changes that the UK found necessary in the 1980's to ensure that they are truly representative of the workforce.   In addition, there are certain positions which should not be allowed to unionise in the normal manner:  Armed forces, Police, and Casino staff.

In the US, the only thing more remarkable than the effort to disdain public health care is the de-legitimization of unions. It really is honestly and truly amazing how corporations, buying politicians, have ensured that blue collar workers will vote against their best interests again and again, year after year, decade after decade.

I'll never forget an anecdote my friend's dad told me. A union rep tried to tell him "we're trying to protect you from the company," and he said "I am the company!"

Anyway, Union Pacific laid him off several years ago, despite record profits.

"President-elect Joe Biden is expected to push to make it easier for workers to unionize and hold employers accountable for working conditions, a sharp U-turn from the business-friendly employment policies pursued by President Donald Trump" every single Republican since the party started.

I can't think of any Republican who has not tried to or managed to take power and rights away from workers for the past 100 years. Certainly since WWII, labor has been getting pushed off the cliff. Republicans know how to keep the boot on.

And there's this hilarious bit at the end:

Scabby the Rat

The fate of the snarling inflatable rats that often show up at picket lines as a symbol of labor strife could depend on the composition of the NLRB.

The agency is considering whether to crack down on their use, which the NLRB's Trump-appointed general counsel has argued is unlawful under the National Labor Relations Act and not protected by the First Amendment because the rats are used to "menace, intimidate and coerce."

Protests with rat-shaped balloons? Scary! Terrible! Ban 'em! No First Amendment for you!

Protests with loaded guns and death threats? Freedom! Mah rights! Shall not be infringed!

What a bunch of snowflakes.

Compromise? Give the balloon rats guns. Everybody wins!

You ever notice that in basically every single ''deal'' between the government and businesses, its always the CEO and the government. The workers are NEVER EVER represented. EVER.

Until that changes and the workers have as much power as CEOs, the workers will continue to get raped.

2020-11-27 8:24:54 PM
How does he plan on paying for those labor-friendly policies? He needs to worry about the National Debt. Thankfully we have Senate Majority McConnell to remind him that we can't afford... *checks notes*... to do anything Biden wants for the next 4 years.

Sounds more like you're butthurt because, thanks to a union, someone else has a job that pays a living wage. It's not the plumber's fault that your McJob pays dick, and you can't afford to get those Big Mac shiats unclogged.

Worked for UP 2 years ago. Saw everything was about to massively go in the crapper(despite record profits year after year) and bailed . My 99% Republic coworkers called me dumb for leaving and crazy. A year after I left 90% of the entire shop was laid off and left out in the cold after decades of service.

I guess what im getting at is rail workers are some of the dumbest mf-ers on the planet and constantly voted against their own interests.

It isn't about Bernie. It never has been .
It is about policy Democrats profess to endorse yet abandon once the votes are counted.

2020-11-27 8:49:05 PM
It is high time Democrats remind the lower-middle and tradesfolk that they are their friends.

There are many economic opportunities in the modernization of our infrastructure that will be possible, if the Senate will cooperate.

Wouldn't a nationwide program of wind-farms to provide a part of the power we eat every day be a good thing?

That's a lot of linesmen jobs, a lot of shop jobs and a farking shiat-ton of electrical maintenance jobs.

Combine that with heavy investment of rural areas for cannabis cultivation and maybe some of the legitimate pinch rural America feels will relax enough for them to start articulating what they think will fix the "farking everything" that is broken there.

Because that's the problem. I honestly don't understand what is wrong in that part of America, despite the fact I grew up in that part of America. It's real farked is all I can gather from my extended family, who stayed.

I knew it. Probbaly going to have to gay marry a frog too.

2020-11-27 8:54:29 PM
So I have mixed feelings about unions. I like the idea of evening the negotiation power between employer and employed a great deal. The problem is unions as organizations get subverted into other things. Police unions come to mind particularly but pretty much all of them have had issues with organized crime, protecting the lowest denominator employee and making it hard for rising stars to actually rise (becomes a time in service game, not fact you're greatest talent in the building).  It leaves me conflicted in that I really want the benefits they bring but some of the detriments are just dangerous.

Sure lets unionize all the things... after we adjust a bit just what a union means and is in America.

In 50 years what has he done besides imprison Americans for decades with his crime bill, hurt low wage Americans abused by predatory banks and helped Obama break promises he made in the 2008 campaign as he is toasting China for the jobs they took from Americans with slave labor?

Having come from a super small town in MT, I can tell you what's wrong with them...willful ignorance and fear.  They're too scared to leave their little corner and learn what's out there, so all these newfangled ideas are scary to them.  This leads to them putting up walls, creating more ignorance in a feedback loop.  Small towns are in a lot of trouble, unless they're willing to modernize...and I don't see that happening.
