Van Morrison lost his mind years ago, but WTF Clapton

Online/stream paid concerts are the current way to go.  Those two should be able to bring in the bucks.   Or pounds sterling.  Or pots-o-gold or leprechaun farts or whatever they use in Van Morrison's country.

i don't need to hear it to know it's two ham-faced wet-brained racist has-beens who made bank off black music trotting out another boring 12-bar lurch with aggrieved white crybaby lyrics, a shiatty harmonica solo and some inoffensive mid-tempo pentatonic wankery. all farking set, thanks. william hung's music has more depth and feeling than these two xenophobic coke casualties' production lackeys can manufacture in post.

I'm not sure I understand why live music is going to die permanently. I mean, I'm all in favor of financial support for workers and business that the govt compelled to shut down. But even if that doesn't happen and the existing venues fail, what, no one is going to open new venues after the vaccinations are fully deployed? Is our post-pandemic behavior going to change so radically that no one will be able to sell live music?

monsatano: Van Morrison lost his mind years ago, but WTF Clapton

Clapton has been a racist shi*bag for decades as evidenced by the following rant Eric Clapton proudly delivered on stage at the Birmingham Arena on August 5, 1976 :

"Do we have any foreigners in the audience tonight? If so, please put up yourhands ... So where are you? Well wherever you all are, I think you should all just leave. Not just leave the hall, leave our country ... I don't want you here, in the room or in my country. Listen to me, man! I think we should send them all back. Stop Britain from becoming a black colony. Get the foreigners out. Get the wogs out. Get the coons out. Keep Britain white ... The black wogs and coons and Arabs and f*cking Jamaicans don't belong here, we don't want them here. This isEngland, this is a white country, we don't want any black wogs and coons livinghere. We need to make clear to them they are not welcome. England is for whitepeople, man ... This is Great Britain, a white country, what is happening tous, for f*ck's sake? ... Throw the wogs out! Keep Britain white!"
That's your guitar hero everyone!

So you're saying mathematically, he has done good?

But yeah, outside of actual new music or news about new music, they haven't been on my list of concerns.

Thank goodness they are so old and pointless, like me, that they have no impact on other people's opinions beyond choir preaching.

Music venues are businesses. If you have an emotional bond with a venue,, support it. If your venue didn't make enough emotional bond level investments, then you go boom.

I have seen the venues of the. most. epic. concerts I have ever been to razed to the ground, or bought out by ticket master or clear company. I have had some of the. most. epic concerts in a basketball arena with the sponsor of the day's name on it.

There is always some ≠ in art and commerce, but on the lists of needs, I have to start prioritizing somewhere.

The next time a concert venue owner asks me for money, they are going to have to name one other charity who deserves it less.

It's good that people have formed anti-racist/fascist groups. It would be better if they didn't need to form them in the first place.

Suddenly I feel like Pink Floyd's The Wall was not autobiographical at all, but was in fact about someone very specific.

Huh. This is like learning about who Carly Simon was talking about in You're So Vain.

I'll give Ken Burns and even Wynton Marsalis some credit: you will find the answer to your question in the first episode of Burns' County Music doc. (And, yes, Clapton is English but let's just say that England is not immune from the influence of American culture.)

It's the fetish we have for "job" creators. You can't let them fail because God knows no one else will come along and replace them or something. If there's a market for it, someone will fill it.

[Pat Boone]

Little Richard admitted that though Boone "took [his] music", Boone made it more popular due to his high status in the white music industry.[30]
Nevertheless, a Washington Post Staff Writer, Richard Harrington, quoted Richard in an article:

They didn't want me to be in the white guys' way. ... I felt I was pushed into a rhythm and blues corner to keep out of rockers' way, because that's where the money is. When "Tutti Frutti" came out. ... They needed a rock star to block me out of white homes because I was a hero to white kids. The white kids would have Pat Boone upon the dresser and me in the drawer 'cause they liked my version better, but the families didn't want me because of the image that I was projecting.

From here.

It's the attitude that if things don't stay exactly the same they will never ever ever be that way again.

I can only speak for myself, maybe someone will agree with me, but I cannot wait to see a show.  Any show. I remember the magic moment when the lights went down in a sold out arena. I'd give a lot to experience that again, but only when I can do it right. But when that time is here, I'll be there.  Or at the local theater to see a tribute band. Anything. Bring it.
