Starts off as late 90s navel gazing, but great read overall, Subby.

Funny since I just ate a whoopie pie.

I eat Life cereal when I want to remind myself of my grandfather.  That and a glass of orange juice.  We had that together every time I stayed at his house as a kid.

No... junk food was "I'm on the road for weeks at a time and by the time I get to my destination I need calories."

Love is taking the time and putting as much joy and adventureness and thought into a meal.

9/10 times I'll take the planned and prepped meal over junk food or fast food. The 1/10 i was drunk and created an abomination.

Lucky. My grandfather ate Cream of Wheat and buttermilk.

Yeah, this.
I was lucky enough to grow up on home cooked meals, and fast food was both a treat and an abomination at the same time. (there were no chips in the house other than tortilla, there was no soda other than an occasional root beer or ginger ale and there sure as hell weren't any twinkies or oreos)

To this day I feel the same way. I'll cook long before I have junk food, and even then the junk food is a chunk of salami (or sausage), a hunk of bread, some cheese and 1/2 an apple or some dried figs.
I don't buy what is commonly known as junk food, and "fast food" is what I call "road food", meaning you are on the road, and need something accessible, consistent and convenient.

That said, today I had a Jumbo Jack w/cheese and a value fries for brunch at 11am because I was starving. About 800 calories and the first time in 3-4 months. Sometimes you just need some Road Food... *shrug*

My Grandmother spread bacon grease on untoasted wheat bread and thought it was a feast.

My grandmother also buttered all sandwich breads. I hated it(i've learned to love butter).

Soft boiled eggs remind me of her. She used to cut the top off the egg and cut the toast into slices that would fit in the egg.

I have a lot of food related memories, which is weird cause growing up my food exposure was kinda sad. So glad I grew out of that.

Somehow something was missed in the previous post.

My grandmother would take a piece of bread out of the bag, dip a spreading knife into a jar of bacon grease, scoop some out, smear it on on the untoasted bread, and eat it like that.

I like some butter on french bread (and how else do you make garlic bread), but that's not nearly the same thing.
Sammiches deserve mayo...
