Came to basically say this... but... it's much simpler.  Send the restaurant and their insurance company a lawyer letter letting them know that the city will no longer provide police or fire protection.  I suspect the insurance company will do the rest.  But yeah, shutting off the water should happen like before lunchtime today

He sold food anyway.

So the next day the cops came with locksmiths and changed all the locks.

Owner tried to smash them, and away to jail he went.

Of course everybody can make their own choices.  But you should pay a penalty for making the wrong choice.  Just like a chef in a restaurant could choose to not store the meat in a fridge, but he has to pay the penalty of having his restaurant shut down and pay the hospital bills of the patrons who get sick.

Health regulations aren't an assault on your civil liberties, and neither are pandemic precautions.  Grow up and turn off the Atlas Shrugged audio book.

That's... not really how autonomous zones work, or what they are.

You don't get to just selectively exempt yourself from a very narrow band of municipal regulations that you don't like, an AZ involves severing your area from the systems tied to whatever your problem is rooted in, which means effectively removing yourself from both the benefits and downsides of a much, much broader chunk of the mechanisms that normally lie under a functioning modern society.

Like... the AZs these idiots are seeing in the news weren't just declaring "police can't specifically arrest black people for being black", they judged that the benefits of having a police force were insufficient to justify the downsides and removed police from their neighborhoods entirely, meaning that the local communities had to shoulder the burden of regulatory enforcement and peacekeeping with local resources, do a lot more of their own legwork to manage traffic and maintain compliance with state law in other contexts, etc.  AZs, in short, are communes, and as much as people on both sides of the fascist/hippie divide hesitate to use the word for different reasons, a commune is very literally, by definition, a corporation.  Which means you have to internally regulate it, manage its externalities, and ensure that operations remain profit-neutral to profitable (the hippie word is "sustainable", but, again, literally it means the same thing as 'profitable' by the dictionary definition).

Or, to put it simply, if you want to do this, you have to be willing to put in the work.  Like... the community is going to basically going to have to put together its own civil service with hundreds of people putting in 40-hour weeks to keep things running and being compensated commensurately somehow.  That much work.

// This post is your monthly reminder that cooperatives / communes are actually how a substantial fraction of the US's economy in real-value terms is organized, and there are just as many standard procedures and long-standing organizational / structural principles governing them as there are for the more blatantly evil social cancers that you're probably thinking of when you hear the word "corporation".  Calling the successful AZ's "anarchist" is one of those "technically correct" things where 'anarchist' is being used in the political science sense of how voting control is assigned-- the ones that lasted more than a week are governed by traditions of order that are quite literally older than Capitalism.

Wasn't Andrew Cuomo going to have his 89 year old mother over for Thanksgiving until all hell broke loose?  The Mayor of Denver was pleading for everyone to stay put and not travel as he was boarding an airplane to Mississippi to spend time with his wife and daughter.

Until the politicians deem it worthy to sacrifice, then it's hard to take it seriously.  Rules for me and rules for thee aren't followed by viruses.
