So, a sovereign restaurant then?

Fine. Cut off its electricity, gas, water and sewer services. If they're autonomous, they can get their own.

Looks like I am goi my on a road trip to conquer myself a restaurant.  I have a fool proof plan:
1: tell are the nut jobs inside that there are a bunch of gender nonconforming anti-fa socialists who think that Black Lives Matter out back getting abortions for married gays.
2: Wait for them all to grab their lunching supplies and run out the back door.
3: lock said back door
4: now I am the king of the restaurant!  No more tyranny of having to wash your hands after pooping!  Maximum freedom!

Put a fence around it, with police "border patrol" to prevent anybody from leaving it until they quarantine for 2 weeks.

That will put an end to their nonsense. Also, bill them for the fence and police time.

Nah, tell the CIA that the are going to have free elections and a socialist is winning.  Then watch as the CIA arms the kitchen staff to start a right wing insurgency.  Tell the DEA the kitchen staff is selling drugs, so they will arm the servers.  In a few years the refugees fleeing the violence can be called scum and rapist by Fox News.  I know it's been done before(a lot of times) but it's our  traditional way of supporting democracies in American countries.

Of course everybody can make their own choices.  But you should pay a penalty for making the wrong choice.  Just like a chef in a restaurant could choose to not store the meat in a fridge, but he has to pay the penalty of having his restaurant shut down and pay the hospital bills of the patrons who get sick.

Health regulations aren't an assault on your civil liberties, and neither are pandemic precautions.  Grow up and turn off the Atlas Shrugged audio book.

That's... not really how autonomous zones work, or what they are.

You don't get to just selectively exempt yourself from a very narrow band of municipal regulations that you don't like, an AZ involves severing your area from the systems tied to whatever your problem is rooted in, which means effectively removing yourself from both the benefits and downsides of a much, much broader chunk of the mechanisms that normally lie under a functioning modern society.

Like... the AZs these idiots are seeing in the news weren't just declaring "police can't specifically arrest black people for being black", they judged that the benefits of having a police force were insufficient to justify the downsides and removed police from their neighborhoods entirely, meaning that the local communities had to shoulder the burden of regulatory enforcement and peacekeeping with local resources, do a lot more of their own legwork to manage traffic and maintain compliance with state law in other contexts, etc.  AZs, in short, are communes, and as much as people on both sides of the fascist/hippie divide hesitate to use the word for different reasons, a commune is very literally, by definition, a corporation.  Which means you have to internally regulate it, manage its externalities, and ensure that operations remain profit-neutral to profitable (the hippie word is "sustainable", but, again, literally it means the same thing as 'profitable' by the dictionary definition).

Or, to put it simply, if you want to do this, you have to be willing to put in the work.  Like... the community is going to basically going to have to put together its own civil service with hundreds of people putting in 40-hour weeks to keep things running and being compensated commensurately somehow.  That much work.

// This post is your monthly reminder that cooperatives / communes are actually how a substantial fraction of the US's economy in real-value terms is organized, and there are just as many standard procedures and long-standing organizational / structural principles governing them as there are for the more blatantly evil social cancers that you're probably thinking of when you hear the word "corporation".  Calling the successful AZ's "anarchist" is one of those "technically correct" things where 'anarchist' is being used in the political science sense of how voting control is assigned-- the ones that lasted more than a week are governed by traditions of order that are quite literally older than Capitalism.

Wasn't Andrew Cuomo going to have his 89 year old mother over for Thanksgiving until all hell broke loose?  The Mayor of Denver was pleading for everyone to stay put and not travel as he was boarding an airplane to Mississippi to spend time with his wife and daughter.

Until the politicians deem it worthy to sacrifice, then it's hard to take it seriously.  Rules for me and rules for thee aren't followed by viruses.

Politicians should be first in line for the vaccine.

Canada financial assistance for small businesses includes:
1) unemployment extensions to employees
2) monthly cash payments to business owners
3) zero interest business loans (actually only 80% needs to be paid back)
4) rent relief (business pays 25%, Government pays 50%, landlord eats 25%)

Most businesses should be able to survive with this type of financial support.  If businesses cannot last a few more months abiding regulations, it could mean it is insufficient in terms of financial aid or it could mean the business was not that strong to begin with or just unwilling to take the hit.

Indefinitely?  Nobody said anything about indefinitely.  Just for about 4 weeks while we all go through a hardcore close-down.  Afterward, some relief continuing for some businesses as others cautiously re-open with strong precautions.  And those strong precautions get relaxed over weeks as the testing in the area continues to be good.  But as soon as an outbreak shows up, clamp down on the area again and shut down everything for another 2 weeks.  That's the way it should happen, the way it should have happened 8 months ago.

Problem is: MURICA, fark YEAH.  Even if it's just a small percentage of dickheads who persist in not taking precautions, flare-ups of the virus will happen and they'll be used as proof that the hardcore lockdown didn't work.  And rightly so, because it didn't, because of those dickheads.  An invisible disease that can be transmitted from people without symptoms is custom made for science-deniers to go about business as usual, without painting even a drop of lamb's blood on their lintels.

If and when your decisions don't threaten those around me I won't give a fark.

Why can't I shoot my gun around outside my backdoor of my neighborhood?  It's a bad decision, but it's my decision.  The government shouldn't be able to tell me I can't shoot my guns whenever and wherever I like.

Why can't I drink and drive?  Why is the government telling me what I can't do with my body and my car i own?

Where do you live? Where do the people you love live? Mind if I drive around drunk firing rounds around your neighborhood?  You shouldn't care, its my choice, even if it is a bad choice, it's my choice.  If I kill a couple people either through drunk driving or hitting them with bullets ill just have to live with that consequence, and nobody has the right to be upset, I just made a personal choice and you have to respect that choice.  If I permanently damage people where they have to live with permanent lung damage, paralyze them, or destroy some of their organs same thing, you'd have to respect my decision.

Until there's a vaccine widely available that you and people like you can choose not to take, the choices you make negatively effect other people and put their lives and people they care about in danger, financially and physically.

You just sound like a child, not like some libertarian hero.  Choices have consequences, living in a society means participating in said society in a manner to not put burdens or threaten other people's lives with your choices.

Exactly! The commoners should not be able to make their own choices. Just shut up, submit, and comply.

Geez, mask-nutters can't even handle absolute submission and compliance. No wonder this country is a joke to the world. Well, at least we can blame everything on one old man and have another even older man save us all. So we have that going for us, which is nice.

They can't. The SCOTUS does not want to rule on this. It is an abridgy of free speech. One important restrictiin is in speaking to one that is hearing challenged that can read lips and facial signals. Why should one be limited to communicate with them?

It's seems that unless there is a serious push to equate with "fire in a theatre" this won't ever be heard.
