If you're going to be a selfish asshole, at least be a vocally selfish asshole so the rest of us know who to avoid.

It's almost like public officials are expected to set a good example. I mean, shiat, we have had four years to learn what can happen when leaders don't set a good example. Plus he is giving ammunition to covidiots who think that hypocrisy is relevant to matters of fact. Asshole.

/yes, I'm a Democrat

Assholes like this guy and Newsom are doing incalculable harm by showing that they don't believe the Rona is dangerous. A humanitarian politician would model the behavior he wants his constituents to adopt. No wonder so many people believe that a virus that has killed more than a quarter millions Americans is a hoax.

It makes you wonder how often politicians get away with this sort of hypocrisy.

We see all these "I regret my actions and should have..." apologetic statements after the fact, they must know they're going to get caught out eventually, one can only presume they get away with it 90 per cent of the time and like those odds.

Enjoy your primary, mayor. Or your election if that's how your rules work over there. Regardless, I hope you are replaced. I don't give a shiat what your party affiliation is. If you can't adhere to the guidelines you're laying out, then fark you in particular. You shouldn't be getting paid by tax payers to be an asshole.

I read this exact same story on Fark earlier this week, and I still don't understand why he traveled to Houston to visit his daughter in Mississippi.

Yes, he's an asshole. Yes, Covid is dangerous.

Incalculable is the perfect description here.

We really have no idea just how many people have been influenced by their hypocrisy.

I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say Trump wearing a mask in public at the start of this would have resulted in thousands of lives saved.

That's not an exaggeration, you could probably bump that up to tens of thousands of lives, maybe even 100,000+, if Republicans embraced and normalized mask wearing.

It's pathetic that we couldn't even be bothered to do the bare minimum to mitigate this situation.

Planes are safe enough, allegedly.

The airport is the real shiat show.

And you are 100% correct. Travel + meetups is how covid gets from area A to area B. All this unnecessary flying is killing thousands. At least drive...

When Kremlin baloney rises, disinformed idiots move faster. And when these idiots start to collide with each other, harm increases. More harm means more idiots, making more disinformation available to read, says lead conspiracy theorist Purple Urkle, a comedian at Drew Curtis' Fark News aggregator on the internet.

Trump is beyond hope, but I expect better from leaders who say that they are following the science and listening to epidemiologists. You have to live the values you preach if you expect anyone to listen to you.

I want to say I heard it from a doctor on npr. Something about the air system in planes means masks + the circulation makes them reasonably safe. The doc in question, iirc, said they'd feel safe on the flight, but clearly stated the airport itself was a death trap so they wouldn't fly.

Still worse than the obvious choice of not getting close to others, of course.

It's been a mix.

Mostly, globally, there have been very few cases that could be definitively traced to a flight, which is pretty impressive given how many people fly.

However there have been a couple of super-spreader flights, presumably when a covidiot gets on with a case and covertly flaunts the rules

Hypocritical politicians. Color me shocked.
We're never getting control of this virus. There aren't enough people following directions, and there are too many people questioning vaccination. President Biden has zero chance of righting this ship. Even if half of Trump voters followed precautions, that still 37 million people that will continue spreading disease. Couple that with Democratic politicians who shirk CDC recommendations, and we'll never convince people that they need to take this seriously.
We're f*cked.

I predict it's not going to be as bad as everybody is saying it's going to be

basically hold steady with some rise
but not the absolute over-the-top rage that everybody is talking about

I'm not confident of course but for some reason that came to me
my intuition is usually pretty good, but I can't see how this could possibly be true

I'm curious to see how it rolls

There are a whole army of lobbyists aimed to reduce valid criticism of politicians (especially in the name of Party Politics). This guy, along with Newsom and Cuomo, should not be re-elected.

It's already 180k/day. To contrast, we were at 35k/day in April.

That's not a hold steady rate.

Additionally, America just hit a daily death rate of 2.3k/day. That's the size of a high school dying every day.

Other than a one-day spike in June, that's the highest rate since May.

The death lag is coming.

that can't be right I wouldn't bet on it

I predict 240,000 a day by New Year's
