I worked on Schitt's Creek and that motel was such a dump.   It was really only used for exterior shots but the few times I had to go into the rooms to place equipment I was worried about bed bugs.

The place mostly was used by optimistic wannabe basketball players from the USA who lived there while attending a nearby "basketball camp".    You got the impression the poor players were tricked into expecting deluxe accommodations and instead got this dump.    It didn't matter that they payed for their rooms, when we shot the TV shows we could still invade their rooms to put lights.

PS:  all the shots of the actual hotel rooms were done at Pinewood studios in Toronto.

I can live with bed bugs as long as Alexis is part of the deal. Whatever they want.

Hazel and Agnes stayed there once. She wanted to go bird watching.

I've been there recently to visit. There is nothing significant in the area, though it is near Orangeville and a decent golf/ski resort still owned by the Motel's actual owner. It's a dead motel, with a couple of single dwellings (one old, one new) on the property, not in the show.

There are a couple of houses directly across the dirt road, who must be really annoyed with all the pandemic visitors asking to use the bathroom, because there were at least half a dozen people milling around an empty, closed, nondescript motel. It's virtually empty inside (I peeked in some windows).

The owner wanted it converted to a boutique motel/restored tourist trap. I think the time to do that was immediately when the show ended, but they do get visitors to nothing regardless. I believe everyone would be happier if they put in a porta-potty for now, though.

Other places of interest in the area are the garage and cafe from the show, but we didn't visit.

I was SOOOO disappointed that Hazel was barely in season 2 - and that he was only there to reveal the death of Agnes. I'm hoping they'll be back in another timeline.

I didn't hate Schitt's Creek when I started watching, but I didn't like it.

Everyone on Fark said give it 2 or 3 seasons.  I thought that was a lot to ask, but damn if they weren't right.

By the end, I was sad to see it go but also glad it ended how it did!

The "article" mentions a Listing but does not link to it.  Anyone have a link to the actual Listing handy?

never mind, just found the actual Listing

6+  acres of trout laden river fronted property? Area looks lovely, too. The structures? Who knows? Not sure how a 10 room motel supports a mortgage on $2M.

It does as a boutique themed motel, just like in the show!

I kid, but that's probably the best idea. The show has good life expectancy and a timelessness about it, and a cultish following. I guess creating a themed experience could make a profit, if licensing is reasonable.

Fixing the place up to look like the show will take a bit of work. On the bright side, the only paint colors you'll need are teal and orange.

I had never heard of the show until it won all those awards recently and everyone was talking about. I figured it was a new show but then found out it had been on for 6 seasons. I wondered why after all that time it was suddenly getting so much attention.

So I went to my friends and we binged season one. I was thoroughly unimpressed. It wasn't bad but IMO is was just another mildly amusing, meh sitcom and I couldn't understand what all the hubbub was about.

I guess I'll have to watch a few more seasons to find out.

I was the same way.  I was honestly like "Oh, it's Canadian Arrested Development"
I was on Fark a lot saying "I don't GET IT!!???"

It's a matter of becoming familiar with the characters and then loving the characters.
I'm not kidding it may have taken me 3 seasons before it clicked with me.

Kim's Convenience is another wholesome Canadian comedy that is worth watching.

My wife said THAT too!!!  I watched the first episode and didn't care for THAT either.  My wife stuck it out and watched all 4 seasons and liked it.

Mr. Kim is not a bad X-Wing pilot.

/ is Kim's Convenience Star Wars canon yet?

Of course it is possible to set one's expectations too high, and nothing is everybody's cup of tea.  So... maybe.

There are other sitcoms that everyone raves about on the Internet that I've tried to watch and simply cannot stand.  The Office is one of those.  And every clip I've ever seen of It's Always Sunny (usually linked by someone saying "this is the scene that turned me into a fan!") has made me absolutely loathe the characters.

As far as Schitt's Creek goes, I watched the pilot when it came out and thought "meh".  When it started getting a lot of attention I went back and gave it another shot, and after a few episodes I got to where I liked it a lot more.  But it wasn't until the last episode of season 2 that I realized what the show was doing, and from that point on they had me completely.  I'd say if you aren't hating it, then keep going at least until that point.

Little Mosque on the Prairie

is pretty good, too. A Canadian take on immigrant Muslims in a rural town. I kept imagining the horror show an American version would be.

/Bonus, in that show, Agnes Today from Umbrella Academy is married to Morris O'Brian from 24.
