Trump could theoretically pardon himself as the Constitution contains no provision against doing that

That's because the concept is so ridiculous the founders didn't even consider it.

If the President can pardon himself then we're no type of democracy or republic or whatever we call ourselves.

Yes, indeed!  List out all of the crimes that you are pardoning yourself for and then put that ridiculous, illiterate scribble you call a signature on the document.  While it makes it way to the Supreme Court that will certainly uphold the pardon, you can then give that document to Gov Cuomo to pardon you for those same crimes that are also state crimes.  He'll certainly pardon a fellow New Yorker, right?!

I love The Tiger King, but also fark that documentary.

If ever there was proof that people are not immune to propaganda, it's the fact that Joe Exotic has become a folk hero while Carol Baskin has become public enemy number one because of a documentary framed a redneck abusing animals as endearing while a woman running a non-profit with volunteers as villainous.

And, you know, stretching some truths about her husband going missing, too.

But yeah... Lest it seem like I'm defending Carol Baskin too much; don't give Joe Exotic a pardon, holy shiat.

If Trump is serious about a 2024 presidential comeback run then pardoning Joe Exotic could be spun as Trump being a champion of the LGBTQ+ communities (why yes, I do agree a spin that severe would give the Tasmanian Devil himself whiplash). Then again, Trump's top legal adviser went on national television with hair dye running down his face. Strategic planning isn't exactly the strong suit for this bunch, is it?

Very simply: that's how it was conveyed through the film's language. The documentary very much framed Joe Exotic's shenanigans as bumbling, or can-do, and endearing, while at the same time, everything bad that Carol Baskins did was framed as, you know, bad.

Like I said: it's proof that propaganda works. People that may not be very media savvy or don't think critically beyond the spectacle of the documentary might arrive at some pretty bad conclusions.

All of the people in Tiger King were terrible.

I had heard what terrible biatch Baskin is before the show.

My parents rescued a Katrina dog that bit my dad to hell and back and instead of putting it down a lady with a big cat adopted him.

She told me me about Baskin some 15 years ago.

Man, every time Tiger King comes up, I'm always stuck in a precarious situation where I have to say that that documentary did her dirty, and she's still a biatch.

Don't get me wrong: I have no interest in saying that Carol Baskin isn't a bad person. Rather, my irritation is that the documentary tries to frame it that she's just as bad, if not worse than Joe Exotic.

Doesn't need a list.  A President can issue an absolute pardon which covers even undiscovered crimes, as Ford did with Nixon.

That will be the kicker which might end the cult of Trump. Laughing at Trumpers, 'oh yeah your guy had to pardon himself, unlike Obama who contrary to Trump's many broken promises was never "locked up".'

That is a really embarrassing legacy. Lost the popular vote twice, voted out after one term, was impeached and created legal history by pardoning himself for anything he may or may not have done while in office.

Will be funnier still if he resigns from office so President Pence can pardon him, which some legal opinions regard as less risky that pardoning himself which is a bit of a grey area.

Trumplethindick's inevitable pardon of himself will prove rich material as what's left of our government tries to reconstruct the last four years. The timeline of "any and all crimes that may have been committed between [date] and [date]" is as clear an indication as is imaginable.

Interesting to see how the SC could rule on self pardon with Biden about to be President.

Hell they may not even take it up before he's inaugurated.

They just may let him pardon himself because they aren't afraid of Democrats abusing the power...

But they'd be making themselves irrelevant against an executive they could no longer check.

Joe Exotica is fine to pardon.

Even if he goes back to his animal torture and cult-like devotion of his workers ways, and continues to threaten that other criminal lady, and trade blowjobs for meth with early 20s beefcakes how much harm can he really cause?

I suspect Trump will have no need to pardon himself as he won't even be in the country come January. Would anyone be surprised to see him spending December at his golf resort, then scheduling visit in January to North Korea or Russia? I would not be shocked if he is in Moscow on January 20th, then when indictments are announced he will be tweeting away like Assange playing the innocent victim.

Agreed.  The great part about Tiger King was that literally every single person in there was some level of reprehensible.  There were no likeable people in that show.

The most damage done by far by Tiger King is to the poor polyamorous community who now has to explain to everyone who asks (and they do ask now) that they're NOT tied to some weird tiger cult.

Everyone else deserved exactly what they got.

Honestly, I don't understand how anyone came away with the idea that Joe Exotic was some kind of hero. It says a lot that, even with murder allegations hanging over her head, Carole Baskin comes off as, far and away, the least shiatty person of all the proprietors featured on that show.

But I suppose, if you're flashy and flamboyant enough, people will support you no matter how terrible you are.

As if the White House wasn't proof enough of that already.

Saff and John Reinke seemed pretty OK for the most part. Just people without much of a prospect in life trying to make an honest wage while working for a damn nutcase. Reinke pretty much confirmed that in that reunion interview, when he said that Joe deserved to be in jail and he was glad to be free of him.

He did run for governor of Oklahoma in the past. I wouldn't put it past him to run for POTUS in 2024 if he gets pardoned.

And given what 2016 and 2020 have revealed about our national character, I wouldn't be surprised if he got the GOP nomation and actually won the office.
