(Entertainment Weekly)   Emilia Clarke once had to invent an entire Daenerys speech in the fictional Valyrian language in 10 minutes. It doesn't really make sense but nobody ever noticed   (ew.com) divider line

Was that when she walked naked out of the fire after burning all the male Dothraki leaders in that tent?  Because she could have been reading Dr. Seuss for all I cared; I wasn't paying any attention to what she was saying

Besides being drop-dead gorgeous, EC seems like the kind of woman you'd just want to hang out with, tell your problems to and just be with her, ya know? She's got an infectious sort of personality.

FTFY. They did Daenerys wrong. Very wrong. Them trying to shoehorn in a sexual relationship with joon snoow was a big misstep for me. Sure they could be allies in the wars vs. the Lannisters and the Night King; that's all fine, and having a divide in that alliance later on in the series would have worked well.

The entire book series was heading to that. The name of the series is "A Song of Ice and Fire" As in John Snow and Danni?

It's not like that wasn't telegraphed all over the place.

I think everyone expected her to go crazy at some point, but the entirety of Season 8 just felt rushed.  One minute she's fine, preparing to go after Cersei, the next she's roasting all of King's landing.  it was just too abrupt.

Since the final season aired, I've read that she had no idea how the King's Landing scene would play out.  The script mentioned her attacking something in King's Landing and it setting off hidden Wildfyre, and if you look at the scene, you can see green flames in a lot of the shots (I guess they didn't get them all changed in post production?).  She assumed she was attacking Cersei or her troops, she had no idea she was killing innocents - that switch was made after her scene was filmed against a greenscreen

Which is actually pretty good direction, since Dany herself still thought of herself as the hero. Having the actress thinking "oh no, my character has gone evil and I hate it" would have made the scene weak.

Fair point. Though the show uses the books as inspiration, it's not a word for word adaptation.
Even if it is part of the original plan from day 1, the way it was handled seemed forced/hamfisted.

I really expected Cersei to pull a "I surrender, suckers" and launch a ballista from her tower or maybe some secret trick from her vizier or even some peasant booing or throwing a rock or something letting her crack not believing everyone is 100% fawning over her.
But not literally in the middle of the surrender

No, she'd been killing everything in sight for about four years by that point.

For everyone saying she just snapped there at the end, well no, not really. There was plenty of foreshadowing throughout the seasons where her 'family tendencies' came to the surface. Some instances were deserved punishments* but a lot were not. There was a cold/mad core in her that kept peeking out but she had it wrapped with her beauty, her tragedies, her vulnerabilities but it was always there, just waiting.

As for Emilia the person, I find her beautiful and funny and sweet. Smart and talented as well. She is rather adorkable!

I never said the writing didn't go downhill(it did but there's a whole other discussion about that), I just point out Daenerys had been murdering people en masse for years.

The Kings Landing scene would have been so easy to save. All that had to happen was the people of Kings Landing started fighting back against Dany and her troops. Then you have a great scene in which she realizes everybody has been lying all along and the people of King's Landing weren't anxiously awaiting for her to come back. She snaps when she realizes she will never been accepted as the Queen and takes her anger out on the villagers.

Very simple.

This is literally all I ask. They couldn't   even do that, or have one hag say "booo" like in Princess Bride.
Nope, the city surrenders during a curb stomp battle and she decides to snap when she hears the bells. Not even a misinterpretation of someone trying to surrender or anything.
But we had time for the "whole new world" dragon flight and endless curtain calls for the first two episodes.

For all her viciousness (and it was there), she was always standing up for the common-folk.  Breaking the wheel, all that.  Nope.  fark all the commoners.  Burn it all down!

She has a bit of the Zoolander in her. Too much time spent being really really good looking jas turned her work effort into mush.

She's sort of like Milla Jovovich, without the crazy rich husband who bankrolls it all. Ms. Clarke should get one of those, or take acting lessons, or wait for "the Hallmark Christmas Special" call.

She was great in this role though, or at least she was so hot I didn't care.

I've been learning the language off and on for about a year and a half at this point, and there is no way I could come up with a reasonable-sounding 10 minute speech that wouldn't translate roughly into a BizarroWorld version of Eddie Izzard's "cheeky monkey" bit.  Hat off, on the ground, and being knelt on in respect there, full stop.

That said, was this before, during, or after the massive brain tumor thing that nearly killed her?  Because, regardless, that is absolutely badass, but if it is during or after, holy crapfercrap is that amazing.

The legend goes that Bela Lugosi didn't know English at the time, so he first learned his lines for the original stage production of "Dracula" phonetically.  But here's Emilia, only passingly familiar with a made-up language, making a serious speech up on the spot, possibly while or after her brain partially explodes/exploded.

That is hardcore amazing.

Not me, I discovered it in the time between the seventh and eighth seasons. I knew about it, had seen pics of the actors in costume and such, loved the costuming but didn't have HBO so watching it was out so I paid it no mind. My daughter had HBO and insisted I link to her Amazon Prime acct. so I could watch it. I finished season seven two weeks before season eight started! I did find it funny that there are a whole bunch of kids named 'Daenerys' and 'Khaleesi' by their parents who had a bucket of ice water poured over their heads in the end though.
