As a Marylander, confusing Baltimore City with Baltimore County, as the article writer does, triggers me greatly.

When you're smart enough to code ransomware but stupid enough to think that schools have any money in their budgets to pay you...

Look twice when booking a "San Diego" hotel, which could be located 60 miles from "The City of San Diego" in San Diego County CA

I agree.

A few years ago there was some talk of merging the two together. Baltimore County sounded a big "Hell, no"

Is that why Patapsco Avenue has been a car-destroying mess for years? They can't decide if it's Baltimore City or Baltimore County?

Just crossing it is killing my car's suspension.

I saw the notices all over today telling people not to log onto the system for any reason. Wonder how many people did.

The city's government was the victim of a similar attack last year.

This says it all. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. You knew that your networks weren't secure or adequately backed up and you didn't do anything about it.

Two different locations and governments do not really fool me twice

This attack was directed at the Baltimore COUNTY school system. The city and county are 2 different entities as was mentioned in the article and a couple of time here in the comments

The real question is, how MANY days, DAYS, it takes for one to crash into the sixth story of a buliding.

In my state you've got tons of county/city combos in completely different areas.

Jackson and Jackson County are 50 miles apart.
Lawrence County and Lawrenceburg are 150 miles apart.
I could name at least a dozen more.

And the best one.

West Liberty is 100 miles EAST of Liberty.

I'm really hoping no one's been working on flaying cars, since given our 2020 run THAT'S the startup that's gonna fly.

A group I'm involved with decided to pay for a web host.  It has been hacked on and off over the last two weeks.  The owners who get paid to secure it claim they reset everyone's password but it runs PHP and wordpress so that isn't going to work since it isn't the problem.  Would the group use one of my locked down servers that would be free?  Of course not.

/still looking for a good tool to point at a wordpress staging site and turn it into a real static html
//snapshots and diff work real good for securing static content
///site has to be dynamic for reasons like it gets updated with static content twice a year

Baltimore County used to be Baltimore City's dopey country cousin. Now even most Marylanders can not tell the difference.

Johnny O still sucks.
