Normally I'd say fusion, but fusion is always a decade away, so I'm going to go with lava.

Buy a PC if you want a good gaming experience. Mine has 7 fans. Cool as ice.

How TF do they not stress test these things? Especially after the RROD.

Pfft. Real men use liquid helium.

"Specced for 105, goes to 96 so within tolerances. Time to ship."

For some reason, I was thinking about this today despite not owning a PS5. Basically, I was wondering when we start to se the first home "hacks" to solve cooling on it, like cutting vents in the cases, installing a fin stack (and maybe a fan) or even a DIY water cooling solution for it. Both the PS5 and the XBox Series X/S/whatever are pretty much high powered HTPC units and they probably need to be cooled as such.

That combined with "it'll cost us 75 cents more to provide proper cooling coverage there".

That's what customers are for.
Alpha in shop, let folks pay to beta with the first release.

The last job I had in a shop that sold hardware, we did metric assloads of load and endurance testing with pre-production versions of new stuff. Not sure why Sony wouldn't.

Unless you mean that the production PS5s aren't actually as durable as what was designed/tested because of some subcontractor shenanigans?

I'm honestly surprised the consoles don't have closed loop liquid coolers by now.

Nah, I mean literally what I said. Someone looked at the specs, looked at the test numbers, and decided it was within spec. Therefore it can be shipped. Even if it was a subcontractor, someone at sony would still have looked at the completed product for some testing and signed of on it.

My parents would have made me open up the fire extinguisher first so it wouldn't have spoiled the surprise.

You have heard of burn in, right? They plug in the machines, turn them on and let them run non-stop in a room heated to around 110 F for 12 or more hours then test them. That's SOP for electronics manufacturing. If the machine is going to fail that's when it will happen.
If the end-user sets up the machine so the vents are blocked, etc., that's on him.

Gee, however will I avoid playing this in environments >90 degrees F. I'm devastated I won't be able to take out into my garage in the middle of August for some hot gaming action. Completely outraged that I have to leave it in my air conditioned living room. WTF Sony?!?!

Yeah but "within spec" doesn't mean it's a good idea. I had to slap a new computer together at the start of lockdown due to my main PC dying a horrible death. Since there was an extreme shortage of X570 boards, I had to go with the MSI Gamer Edge. At first everything was fine but within 3 months it was dropping drives and other stability issues. I RMAed it back to MSI and got an ASUS TUF Gaming to replace it. No stability issues, no drive issues, runs 20c cooler and is a pretty darn good board.

Yes. Linus Tech Tips makes no bones about being a consumer oriented channel.

Gamers Nexus guy likes to pretend he
Is an authority on anything and uses that appeal to authority via junk science to spread bullshiat that has little to no bearing on real world use.

So until he does something other than dose a Xanax before he reads his charts like get an actual engineering degree, he can sit the fark down.
