You never met Allison from the 7th grade. (1980 or so) Way back when, the school made the girls wear these really really tight yellow shirts...I mean really tight...

My middle daughter had a friend that went from flat to, ahem, "blessed" over a summer. She was actually pretty embarrassed about it. I mean going from most of the teen boys ignoring her ~100lbs with "mosquito bites" body to staring at her ~115lbs with DD's body was quite a shock for a 15yo. The ultimate laugh was my daughter getting pissed off when she walked in on that friend having naked sexy time. Freaked the heck out, and made us sit her down for a bit of a chat. "Yes, we know it's not ideal your friend decided jumping in bed with your brother would be fun but we can't make him not date her or vice versa." Funny thing being the reason she jumped him, apparently, was because he didn't turn into a gibbering idiot when she suddenly grew boobs.

Has the school considered simply not hiring pedophiles?  Because it's students are between 1st to 6th grade.  If you are distracted by your sexual arousal by what those girls are wearing, you are a pedophile and should not be working anywhere near children.

I went to a progressively minded hippy school when I was a kid, we would go swimming naked in the river on hot days.

I was in kindergarten so I really didn't think about it much, but I'd be willing to bet the older kids and teachers did (there were students there up to grade 10).

I suspect the old, "it's just the human body" excuse wouldn't fly these days.

Reality check

A line needs to be drawn somewhere-Would those biatching about this be okay with someone wearing just a g-string in the classroom?  What if a guy wants to go full Porky Pig and be bottomless?  That must be okay, right?

And the fact that boys are not being pulled out of class is probably because they aren't wearing clothes so tight you can tell their religion.

They mention 12 to 18 year olds, so I'm guessing the terminology is different than the US.

Also they mention, "as it is distracting to the female and male staff of the school."

This isn't about old men being pervs, it's about old women being jealous.

Bowen: Rapmaster2000: When I first started working as an engineer way back in 2000, the people who were my age wore polo shirts tucked into jeans.  We were less formal than the guys in their 40s who wore button down shirts and khakis, who I assume were less formal than their seniors who likely wore ties back in the early 80s.  Now, the 20-something men in my office wear shorts and T-shirts, and the women wear yoga pants.  Some of them wear half-shirts.

I feel old.

All the moms at my kids school wear yoga pants pretty much 24/7 (pre-Covid). Yes, I'm old. But come on, you're wearing sweatpants on back to school night? This is the way you want to meet your kids teacher for the first time?

I'd rather they do that, than wear pajamas... not sure what it is, but I'm seeing a lot of people wearing pajamas out in public, even before COVID

It's not first through sixth grade

The age of consent in the UK is 16, so we're definitely treading on a moral -- but probably not legal -- gray area.

In the history of humanity, there is nothing really against 15-18 year olds getting involved in adult relationships, at least not until the laws of the 20th century told us they couldn't. But the bigger, more universal, issue here is the balance of power in the relationship between teacher and student.

rewind2846: Why are teachers staring at 12-18 year old girls?
Let's try dealing with that first. Teaching people not to eye-rape is better than teaching people how to avoid being eye-raped.

Yes, but why are these kids wearing "skin-tight" clothing, too? Take teachers out of the mix; just the student's counterparts could be discomfited. Let's stop pretending that sartorial display isn't part of sexuality, and instead consider that as one goes through puberty, it is an education that should be received, but also appropriately taught to the degree of the societal norm, whatever that may be.

NikolaiFarkoff: is the balance of power in the relationship between teacher and student.

There have been several cases over the last few years where a teacher (of either sex) has been fired due to having a relationship with one of their pupils. the pupils were of legal age, and the age difference between the two were never anything approaching scandalous numbers, but it was the 'abuse of authority' that lost them their jobs. If they'd both been at separate schools and met via other means, there probably wouldn't be a problem.

Not a Brit, but I think the terms they meant were "upper 1st to upper 6th", which in American translates as "7th grade to HS senior".  Still pervy, but not quite pedo-pervy.

As "one goes through puberty", the "student's counterparts" need to learn to relate to others with respect and consideration - even if they happen to be horny. That's a critical life skill; just ask Jeffrey Toobin. And there's already school dress codes, that are already more strict for females than males. Tackling things from the other end is at least as necessary.

In the UK the age of consent doesn't apply if you're a teacher or other adult in a similar level of trust who decides it's a good idea to fark a high schooler.

/this knowledge comes from having spent my teenage years in the UK, at a secondary school/high school where a teacher decided to embark on a relationship with a sixth form (16-18 years old) student, not from being "Area man with suspiciously comprehensive knowledge of international age of consent laws"

Seriously?

High school is a a crazy mix.  There are students who look like kids and there are students-male and female-that absolutely do NOT look like kids.  Hell, there was a friend of mine who had a receding hairline at 18 who was our go-to for buying beer.

Twelve year olds, yes, certainly, but eighteen year olds are more-or-less adults. Teachers shouldn't get it on with any pupils, but it's unrealistic to expect them not to notice boinkability in the older ones.
