(Courthouse News Service)   Good news, Cali Farkers. A judge has ruled that the 'good taste' rule for personalized plates violates free speech. Expect to see BIGWANG, FARKYOU, and multiple variations on AZZLOVR as you cruise the PCH   (courthousenews.com) divider line

Read the story, not that anyone does, this is fark after all.  The DMV can still restrict profanity and hate speech from appearing.

I mean, I see no reason the CA DMV should prevent someone from celebrating their Aegean heritage.

Seems like a good way to let everyone know which car to key, tires to slash (or just remove the valve stem cores), park/block in, and just generally be asshats to.  Win all around.

CSB:

When I first moved to L.A. back in the mid-1990s, I spotted a blue/gold (1980s) CA plate on the 134 freeway which read, HAVEGUN.

I thought, "this could be one of the producers of Have Gun, Will Travel, from way back when ... or ... it could just be some dude who has a gun."

I kept some distance between myself and that car, just in case.

The DMV also rejected a request for a "SLAAYR" plate, paying homage to the California rock band, because it was deemed "threatening, aggressive, or hostile."

I want to meet this person and buy them a drink. SSSSLLLLLLAAAAAYYYYYEEEERRR

Madman drummers bummers: Speaking of good taste

[Fark user image 640x436]

Yeah, they're tender and have good marbling, but they don't really have much 'kid' flavor.  You could get the dry aged stuff, but that's expensive.  Unless you're being fancy, best to stick to the gym bro who also eats too many carbs.  Good bulk, more flavor, and with some good fat content as well.

My favorite license plate ever I saw in San Rafael in the 90s. Woman in her late 40s, rowing club stickers on her station wagon. You can get some symbols on your plate in California. A star, a hand, a heart.

Well her plate said

💙 2 COX

Oh I bet you do lady... I bet you do.

I made a sarcastic remark about posers in BMWs with personalized plates to a casual friend. A few months later, we started dating, and she had a BMW with personalized plates. She'd worked out some sort of rationale about how I wasn't really an asshole for saying that, so I went along with it.

The next to last like took me aback:  "Tigar said his ruling does not prevent the DMV from prohibiting certain words from appearing on personalized license plates, as hate speech and profanity fall outside the scope of the First Amendment."

Sez who?

I'm rather fond of the 1st, but this ruling seems misguided.  I may have the right to say something, but that doesn't mean that the government has to make me a platform for it.   Anything I can say on a license plate, I can say on a bumper sticker - freedom preserved!

I've heard it called:
"The Coast Road"
"The 1"
"The 101"
"PCH"
"The Pacific Coast Highway"

But you're right, not "The PCH" so much.

Oh. Yeah. That guy.

Maybe he spelled it differently. I'm gonna have to do some digging now.

It was a low-rider mid 60s Dodge van. He chopped it and put aircraft hydraulics on it all around. He did all the work himself and did a nice job. He was an expert welder coming out of high school.
