Heeeeyyy kids

Just me, Mr. Dallymo, and the Kid for Thanksgiving.  Devilled eggs, baked brie with apricot jam, and little pickles and olives for snack.  A game hen on every plate, a side dish of farro, apple, and sweet potato, and King's Hawaiian rolls for dinner.  Pecan pie and cheesecake for dessert.  A 2018 Erath pinot noir to accompany the tiny feast.

Short week for work so packing a lot into the three days.  On a conference call right now, I suppose I'd better get back to paying attention kthxbye

Mr SJF and I have family as close as 15 minutes away, and several more who are within a couple hours. If we see any of them, it'll be on a computer screen. I'm slightly tempted to go across town to see my brother, standing outside in their driveway, with masks on, and not sharing any food at all... just face to face visiting for an hour, then drive back home and make our t-day meal. Pretty sure they are hunkering down as well.

I've been out shopping for ridiculous amounts of food for the two of us. Not turkey. I couldn't decide between a rib roast or a ham, and when I found a 3.33 lb rib roast and a 1.9 lb ham, I got both. The rib roast is for t-day itself, the ham for later.

Not sure exactly what I'll be doing for sides, but sweet potatoes are at the top of that list.

The other thing is that it was 28 years ago on a Thursday the 26th of November that Mr SJF and I met at a big Thanksgiving party and we've been essentially inseparable since then.

Want better, more secure elections? Let the code be certified by the State, or an independent auditor.

But, biatching about it now is pointless.

Going out for dinner on Thursday, staying home for the long weekend, plenty of beer and whiskey, eating, music and movies, and spending lots of time with the wife and the dog.

Probably should avoid the eating.  I need to lose a few pounds.

A helpful photo of what our Foodmas meal might look like.

This is the spread we'll be getting from Mid-Coast Catering, a local company that also operates The Rambler food truck. I've had food from The Rambler before, and it's good, so I've no doubt that this will be as well. In addition to turkey, gravy, stuffing, rolls, green beans, and garlic mash, we've ordered a chocolate bourbon pecan pie for dessert. We'll be running errands tomoz, since Faraday isn't working for a week and a half after today (they took time off to go to Chicago to see family, but then PANDEMIC INTENSIFIES), so we'll pick up our dinner in the midst of that. We're shooting to get everything taken care of tomorrow so that we needn't go out at all during the week-end amidst all the nutbags who just HAVE TO HAVE their Black Friday bullshiat.

Per Oregon's new lockdown regulations that state social gatherings (indoors & outdoors) must be limited to 6 people from 2 households I'm spending Thanksgiving with my cat. Original plans were to go to the home of DIL's sister, but that would have been 6 people from 3 households.

So, instead of having a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with family I'll be enjoying non-traditional quiche and cheesecake

Actually, that doesn't sound bad at all.

We have four people, one household and I'm doing a quick and dirty turkey supper for Thursday.  Turkey breast roast, instant mashed potatoes, Stove Top stuffing, frozen veg, jarred gravy, crescent rolls and canned cranberry sauce.  It takes about 2 hours to cook the turkey breast roast and while it rests, the remaining parts of the dinner can be prepared on the stove top or on the microwave oven.

No sense in breaking my tail to cook for the usual crew.

Can't decide if I should go.

I would go if it would just be the three of you and no one has been out licking door knobs or anything like that and you'd otherwise be on your own. But that's also assuming that you'd otherwise enjoy their company.

Based on our current tier the max is supposed to be 5 people unless everyone is from the same household. We're skipping our usual friends gathering that is supposed to be around 10-12 (including us). Weather permitting it would be a mostly outdoor, or at least covered but no walls, affair but we're not going to risk it. I don't want to get sick and have anyone possibly feel guilty about it, and I definitely don't want to potentially get anyone else sick and have that guilt on me. Plus if we don't go that will make the number less for anyone that does.

Also not planning on going to tRumper brother's place for the first meal as we sometimes do. Gonna respect the tier system for that too even though it'd likely just be 7 of us total.

Here in Los Angeles County a battle is beginning to brew over takeout and delivery only for restaurants beginning tomorrow.

Starting tomorrow and lasting three weeks restaurants and such cannot have any kind of outdoor dining, and that has upset a lot of people.

The California Restaurant Association went to court earlier today to block it, but was denied.

In a symbolic gesture the Los Angeles City Council voted against the outdoor dining ban, but the Los Angeles County Heath Department has the final say.

It's possible the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors could have changed the ban, but at 3 p.m. PT they voted 3-2 to keep the ban.

There is a financial and economic element of this that cannot be ignored, and that would, unfortunately given the circumstances, require Congress and The President to act.

Hopefully at or after January 20, 2021, we can see some rapid action.

Covid-19 cases in Los Angeles County have been experiencing a rapid rate of spread, and there is some concern we could be out of ICU beds by Christmas.

Based on my own observations around L.A. a lot of restaurants and such with outdoor dining have not been practicing social distancing, even when they ordered a reduction of seating by fifty-percent. So, I'm not entirely surprised such drastic action had to be taken.

That is a bubbling mess of the Rona waiting to happen.

BDR459: the_innkeeper: BDR459: Not quite sure I understand the Kerry appointment. I guess I don't understand the value add to the administration.

Climate Change is a national security issue.

Kerry, being former SOS, has pull to get people onboard, domestically and internationally, to try to mitigate the effects and try to reduce the change.

/Syria was a climate-change-driven/initiated conflict.

So it's not his knowledge of climate change but him having good connections. I get it.

I was trying think of a link to progressives.

Connections are what's needed, for that, at that level.

Honestly, anyone in this thread has enough CC knowledge to make good informed decisions about it, and make good policy decisions.

The connections make that policy work.

The progressive part of it is actually doing something about it.
