They're not taking it offline, they're making it standalone, separating it from Red Dead Redemption 2.

A few games are doing this with their online modes lately. One step closer to just nixing the single player content entirely I assume.

I'm wondering if us folks that already own it will have to pony up that five bucks.

/ See what I did there?
// I love the game but RL makes stuff that involved difficult at best.

Subby, did you even read TFA?

Been trying all year to get my lotro kin to try out Red Dead Online, but goddamn are these people dedicated to lotro.

Meanwhile, Fallout 76 literally dropped the new expansion a week early, but forgot to update the "do not allow to play until" on an online only game.

Who am I kidding, I'm a junkie. Level 150ish and I still have to scrounge and scrape for scrap to keep my increasingly overpowered gear running. All my money goes toward gold bullion, a grind without apparent end, so just purchasing the scrap is out of the question.

Call of Duty added the option to uninstall parts of the game that you don't play because the install size was outrageous. But this standalone is Larger (123 GB) than the full game (114 GB). You'd think they could trim some of that fat.

I think I killed more people and critters playing RDR than in all my other games combined.

It won't ever happen. There are so many games that just don't work in "mmo". Not everyone wants to play with, complete against or deal with other people.

Role playing, storylines, not being a character that affects the game worked is important.

I don't do multiplayer games for the same reason that I would rather read a book on my own than to share it with people reading over my shoulder and not allowing me to turn the page until they're ready.

Same.  COVID aside, when I want to hang out with friends, I'll hang out with friends.  When I want to play video games, I'll play video games.  Maybe I'm old and out of touch, but to me, those are two separate activities.  Gaming is a fundamentally solo hobby for me, I'd much prefer to play on my own.  If I'm in a more social mood, I'd rather hang out and talk/joke with my friends, and that's a lot easier to do in person than over a video game.  It's not like D&D, where the game is partly/mostly an excuse to hang out with friends.  The feel is just different between the two pastimes.  Which you'd prefer at a given time is personal preference, no judgments, but I just don't feel like they blend well.

I just want DLC, like Undead Nightmare, for RDR2. Is that too much to ask? Just one big, badass extra game level.

RDR 1 & 2 were the best games I've ever played.  100% on both of them.  Disappointed there isn't MORE to do in them (and I've spent 100s of hours in those worlds).

But I'm with you on the online experience.  I TRIED Red Dead Online and one of the first things we had to do was steal some horses from a barn?  I tried to do it but the other guys with me were riding all over, shooting in the air, jumping fences?  Ding everything BUT what we were SUPPOSED to do.

I've been playing video games since PONG and Destiny was the first game I remember saying "Wait, what?  I need other people to HELP me play this game??"
It looked like a neat game.  But I landed on some planet and I was level 3 and the bad guys were level 80 or something?  And then all of a sudden OTHER played showed up and fought the bad guys while I hid behind a rock and waited.

I said "This isn't playing a video game"

Chinese hackers have been a real buzz kill in rdr2. Makes the online play almost unplayable.

Multiplayer is for people on the same couch. All other forms are abomination.

Really enjoyed the SP campaign.  I noped out of the online game once it was mandatory to group.

I spent quite a bit of 2019 playing RDR2 and enjoyed almost every bit of it. Some of the hunting and taxidermy challenges were a bit tedious, the Butcher Creek area is creepy as all hell, but the story was great and the world is amazing.

I only ventured a little into RDO. I was immediately tackled and hogtied, got loose, and stabbed the offender to death only for him to respawn nearby, and chase me across the entire map before I logged out. Not really a good time if I'm honest. Its a shame most online titles with free for all PvP descend into Lord of the Flies about two seconds after the first two players log in.

Has it changed any?
