(Politico)   Bad news: The DOJ hired the author of the debunked "More Guns Less Crime" book as a senior adviser in the Office of Justice Policy which controls $5 billion in study grants. Good News: He's violating the Hatch act daily so he'll be easy to fire   (politico.com) divider line

Really, what's with the new hires right before Trump gets the boot?  Who's dumb enough to take a job from him at this point - you're going to be out looking again in 2 months.

Resume padding.

Delusion that Trump will get a second term. Trump has never been told no so they are humoring the temper tantrum.

If he's a political appointee he will be fired when Biden takes office.  If he was given a civil service job he will just be shunted off into a backroom office and ignored.

They're likely looking to fleece the government purse one last time. However, the government doesn't move quickly enough to steal as much between now and inauguration. Not to mention most people who do the actual work are career people who generally go on vacation until mid-Jan starting next week.

I look forward to the gift basket of assault rifles and assorted ammos.

Any day now. ..

They are disposable sanitary napkins posing as public servants who have one job only...to do as much damage as possible to the federal institutions they have been appointed to in what little time is left.  As to their psychological motivations for going along with this I cannot even speculate.

Also, he is just plain stupid; "NPR is pretty much Pravda at this point."

This guy was outed and shamed as one of the original sock puppeteers when he was still a semi-respectable gun nut. I wonder if his alter ego, Mary Rosh, got a lame duck appointment as well.

He'll be fired because he's not of high caliber

Biden will be so busy replacing the really terrible people that have a lot of influence that you might be able to skate by for a year or two if you keep your head down and do your job (and maybe some light embezzlement when no one is looking)

Another winner. So much winning.

It's like trump* hired the most batsh*t crazy commenter in a 4chan thread. Or he appeared on Fox News.

This is why we need qualifications for POTUS. It's too important a job for some idiot, useful or not, to occupy. Especially when said idiot knows nothing and no one to fill essential positions.

'Scuse me while I go vomit and fart disdainfully.

This guy will come and go but the GOP will never stop saying that the answer to increased gun death and violence is always "More guns".

Because it is their second most valuable issue for one issue voters just behind abortion.

They love it because it brings in the punters and they also get backed up by the NRA who have also become shameless lying propagandists.

Win-win for the GOP.

I want Biden to do a decapitation strike in the civil service for TrumperHumpers. Actively use the NSA to filter by political affiliation and then start firing the ones with links to the pile of problems built up over the years. Every department, no matter how big or small, cannot be in the hands of assholes who want to break it.

It's not like the law matters. The President can do anything that 34 Senators say is okay. So f*** 'em. We can train more.

Their book is titled 'More Rights For White Men, Less Crime'.
Easy mistake to make though.

America already has more guns. And yet they've also got more crime, so... ¿¿

So at what number of guns does crime start going down?

I know it's normal and customary for political appointees to submit their resignations to the new POTUS, but...there's no such thing as that anymore.

What if these shiatbags all refuse to resign and force Biden to fire them?

Is Biden then going to be hamstrung with some lengthy, tortuous process for dozens or hundreds of these shiatbags?

For schedule C's (the political appointees) NO. their terms expire the moment a new president is sworn in, so their badges will just stop working and security will escort the off the premises if they show up.   The fear right now is "burrowing" which happens at the end of every administration but could be especially dangerous in this one, where political appointees swap their schedule C jobs for career civil service ones which are officially non-partisan  and don't expire..  But three things are working against them to do that right now.  One is that many Trump officials are so unqualified for their position that they also lack the legally required combination of education and experience to qualify for those kinds of gs-13,14,15 jobs.   The other is most federal jobs come with a one year probationary period during which you can be fired for almost any reason and they started burrowing too late because they thought Trump would get a second term.

Finally, they can be hoist on Trumps own petard.   Trump recently issued an Executive Order creating a new category of Federal employee called schedule H which is supposed to include anyone "involved" in making policy at an agency (an absurdly broad category sweeping in most gs-13's and above)   which he says he can hire and fire like political appointees even though their positions are classified as career civil service

All Biden has to do is delay rescinding that executive order for a couple weeks and use the time to purge all such holdovers
