Just imagine if Darwin had not studied at Oxford to become an Anglican priest, the furor would have gotten out of hand, and non-denominational "evangelicals" without formal theological training would have branded him an atheist.  They would never go on to claim the only mistake the creator made was to give man a brain, which must be parked outside when church was in session.

Funny how anyone that disagrees with it can never point to the part that they disagree with.

Even funnier to me is that to this day, "cdesign proponentists" still attack Darwin as though he was a religious leader and On the Origin of Species as though it's a revealed religious text, and if they can defeat them then biology has to go back to where it was in 1859.

"Well, Darwin admitted that he couldn't figure out how an eye could have evolved and he was a racist and he didn't know about information stored in DNA and anyway he recanted on his deathbed and therefore evolution is false."

I've always been amused at people who are offended at the theory that we descended from apes.

Always thought the apes are the ones who should be offended.

If you happen to be in London, be sure to visit the British Museum of Natural History.

In it, at one end of the Grand Hall, sits a statue of Chucky D himself overlooking the visitors and pissing off fundies daily.

The original religious response to Darwin was bland. The furor had to be ginned up.

Thus inspiring its sequel, 'On the Origin of Feces'.

Look, either we all come from monkeys, or we're SUPPOSED to be like this, and I don't like it either way.

For those who try reading it, be prepared for such hot button topics as paragraphs and paragraphs about various types of bird beaks.

This needs the Mitch Hedberg treatment.  We used to be apes.  We still are, but we used to be, too.

I find evolution to be a much more amazing and remarkable thing than just saying God did it. The amount of things that had to happen to get big brained hairless apes is far more inspiring to me.

Soapbox time:
When the idiots claim that evolution is a theory, they mean that this is a theory. A theory on HOW and WHY evolution happens. It is not a theory on IF there is evolution. Evolution is an established fact. How and why are the questions. Just like gravity. It exists. But it is just a theory for how and why. The most common theory is that matter bends something called "space" somehow. So gravity is just a theory the same as evolution is just a theory. To the "morans".

And science never said humans evolved from monkeys/apes dammit. Not once. Not ever. The ones trying to knock evolution are the only ones who say that. Science says that humans and apes and monkeys all have a common ancestor. For that matter, all life has the common ancestor of the first bacteria.

/Rant over
:)

Indeed, there is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.

How accurate was this movie?

It was mostly about his family life, but it showed a rather severe conflict between Charles and the local clergyman about disciplining one of his daughters, and had a couple of his colleagues speculating about the shiatstorm the book would would stir up, one of them saying "you've killed god".  Though mainly they were just trying light a fire under his ass to publish the damn thing.

In the 19th century, intellectual clergy weren't intimidated by creation moving via Evolution.
