Not mushrooms, polypores. But I admit that "dogs on polypores" doesn't have quite the same ring to it. Still very cool, though. Would d'awwww again.

The first one and several of the others are pheasant-backs.  Good eating when cooked with onions and a pinch of thyme in olive oil.  Just make sure you get them young enough that they aren't tough.

They flush in the spring and the fall.  About the only mushroom I've had any luck hunting.

Bracket fungus look delicate but they're typically hard as boards.
