When I showed my teenage children "Top Secret" for the first time, they couldn't believe what passed as "PG" rating in the 1980's.   The movie also became one of their favorites.

Backhouse is a real family name I run across in genealogy. Means the same as Shiathouse. In French it becomes more like "Bacuse", so I wouldn't be surprised the Acadiens and French Canadians have more than a few.

Checking my genealogy, I have about four Backhouses including William Backhouse Astor Sr. and Jr.

Astor. You know. Those Astors! William Backhouse and Anne Backhouse date to the late 1500s, early 1600sb and may be ancestors of the famous Astors (and periherally, me).

One of my favourite family names is Twaddle. I have a few Twaddles in my family tree and I am as proud as Nanas to have them.

God bless him. A 100 years is a good long life, and being a real member of the Resistance rather than a post-War member is worthy of all honour.

Fouquere was a French Minister of Finance until Louis XIV took a fancy to his garderner, his playrights, poets, and so forth.

And if you like naughty sounding French words, you could do worse than phoques, which means seals.

Il y a beaucoup de phoques sur la glace cette année.

You really could give a nice phoque, and I don't have to telegraph it in Morse (walrus).

Are we having fun yet?

CSS: my best friend in middle school was half French. Her father had been in the Resistance. We didn't really understand what that meant then. Later it made things more understandable.

RIP Nazi fighter.

It hasn't been a good autumn for the ccmpagnons. Pierre Simonet died on 5th November and Edgard Tupët-Thomet on 9th September. That leaves Hubert Germain as the last surviving member of l'Ordre de la Libération.
