I cannot imagine anyone willingly traveling to America at this point. I work in the US occasionally when required and I've cancelled all trips there. Bad for business, good for my health. Stay home, buy a treadmill and a space heater.

According to the article, this couple, at least, might need to need to leave CAN. They live in the RV year round.  They may have money but I wouldn't go calling their retirement "rich".  Probably go from one rv park  to another.

Living through Snowbird season in south Florida, I learned that the reason Canadians seem so polite and nice all the time is because all their assholes spend so much time out of their country.

Meh, not impressed.

Now, if they FLEW the RVs and TRUCKED the snowbirds, that would be something!

He's the mayor who took Lloyd Braun's advice to require that all New Yorkers wear name tags right? But he also helped George Costanza get that doctors appointment.

My parents are like this. They smarted up and rented an apartment for the winter. It cost way less than driving the trailer down to Texas and going on cruises for the winter.

Oh, you have no idea. They'll take on Fox News programming and then come back to Canada ranting about the government and whatever the conspiracy theories are and the illegal immigrants. And we're like, "Grandma, you're not even an American and we don't even have a president." It's bizzaro world trying to talk to them.

Yep. You can't winter an RV really. At least not with running water and I doubt the heat is going to keep up.

I also seriously doubt this is going to result in spreading Covid-19 between the countries with them coming and staying for months on end. It's business and those week or two vacations that are dangerous.

My favorite Snow Bird song of all time.

Snowbird Song - Little River Band "Night Owl"-
(Bill Carmichael/Jonathon Brandmeier)

There's a trailer in the middle of the street
Equipped with toilet, man it's really neat
A man gets out, shuffles his feet away
In the road he spots a dime
He'll stop and pick it up everytime
He gets run down
He's back in town
He's a snowbird
CHORUS:
Lookout!
There's a car with a snowbird drving
He's out for his daily drive
So move on
There's a car with a snowbird driving
So just stay inside
If you want to stay alive
He goes to Smitty's once or twice a week
The snowbird picture's looking really bleak
There's more of them moving here every day
He spends his cash, so I'm told
He tells me that someday we'll all be old
And then to boot he wears a leisure suit
He's a snowbird
CHORUS
There's a car right across the street
A compass on his dash, it can't be beat
A man gets in and heads for his Sunday buffet
Yeah, yeah, yeah
He's in the left lane trying to turn right
His vision's blurred, his bowlow tie's too tight
Why your home's aluminum!
You turquoise scum!
You're a snowbird!
CHORUS
Lookout!

Lots of O&G workers and road builders in Northern Canada wintered RVs, it's not the worst. (Back when there was work, of course).

But other than the machinery operators we're talking folks that are in damned good shape, not 80m year old Q-Tips that can't shovel out if they get stuck.

As mad as these people make me I have to admit, it would be very difficult to live in an RV in most of Canada. Many parts of Vancouver are comfortable year round though, there's really no excuse

The border is already "closed" in both directions. The catch is that it only applies to non-commercial land crossings. Passengers can fly and cargo can go by road, which is what they're doing here.

Canada does require a 14-day quarantine for anyone arriving from outside the country. The US should at least impose that restriction on these people, if they don't already.

Florida isn't a hot zone (yet) right now. That's the northern states like PA, Wyoming, North Dakota, etc. Still, at least they aren't Puerto Rico with its 100% positivity rate and the guard being called in to enforce curfew.

Agreed (very much so) - I'm just surprised that people (other than what would be considered essential) are still allowed to cross the border.  That seems like an oversight.

The positivity rate is dropping. Granted it's only the first week of it but on the other hand Pennsylvania went up another 1% and almost to 26% positivity rate now.

A good friend of my wife and her husband will be doing this in a few days. In their case, they are flying to Burlington, VT where their car will be waiting for them for the drive down to Florida. Their attitude is basically that they are rich and retired and should not be expected to endure winter with the rest of us non-rich and retired plebes.

Last night I watched the Bucs-Rams game from Florida. I had to show Mrs.Capt that spectators were allowed in the stands just to show her that her friend and hubby are deluded if they think they can easily minimize the risk of being exposed in a state that has pretty much lifted all its Covid restrictions.
