phaseolus: Dryad: RasIanI: The entire past 4 years has been dry run for future authoritarianism. There will be a New Jim Crow, eventually unless they're movement is stopped.

It won't be. They may be enthusiastically 100% for Jim Crow on ideological grounds, but probably the majority of even the left-leaning white middle class is all for either soft support of Jim Crow or for at least quietly looking the other way out of personal necessity.

Like it or not, Jim Crow is one of the few topics popular on both sides of the political divide. Only one side openly revels in doing so with overtness and cruelty, but both view it as a hard necessity.

That's quite a stretch.

There exist White liberals who suffer from a great deal of privilige-blindness, that's true. But that's a very different thing than an entire big-tent bloc actively maintaining Jim Crow in secret.

Its quite easy to see if you are -not- a suburban white. But most here are, so I expect a lot of privilege blindness on Fark so I will give you some homework;
-
Go find any group of suburban moms, ones that support all sorts of soft liberal general goals like civil rights and police brutality. They may even support BLM.
Now start asking specific policy questions. Get to education. Se if they support equal education for minorities. Of course they do.
Now point out, or wait until one of them points out, that if everyone has equally distributed funding and skilled teachers, it means little Jayden/Brayden/Kaydens suburban school won't be special anymore and get 5x the funding per student of of the average urban school.
Then watch a group of soft liberals go full 'Grizzly Mom' real quick.
-
/Equality as an idea works until they realize equality means giving up some of their privilege.
//Middle class is already feeling the pinch and barely holding on. They will underbus ANYONE just to keep hanging on.
///Also, note that the ones who do want minorities treated equally still means in THOSE neighborhoods. Separate but equal. None of them like PoC brutalized, but no suburban whites are inviting them into thier gated community either.

Lol

Wow. That was a thoughtful and incisive reply.

Can't find anything to dispute in my statement, just aren't articulate enough to express it, or you just won't lower yourself to talk to a ni**er?

Due to the result of economic policies to benefit the corporations and extraordinarily rich, the suburban white middle class has been losing out on quality of life for decades. They will not have near the wealth and privilege their parents did. They see their own shrinking every year. For the first time in post-war history they know their kids will have it worse off than they do. Many are looking at the first generation of generational poverty. Many who are still in suburbia are barely clinging on by the skin of their teeth.
-
Sorry, but anyone asking them to give up more is not going to be well accepted. They already gave up most of it to the wealthy, losing any more of it to the poor will make them angry and defensive. Not against the rich, but against those worse off than they are. The rich even aggravate this by getting them to blame the poor for what has been stolen.
-
/History shows this pattern again and again, this time is no exception.
